Re: Iron Man Mk42 Updated 7/14

If you don't mind me asking, how did you do that?

Which part?

Anyway, got me going on the helmet. Since I'll be having the helmet motorized anyway, I decided to dremel the silver thingies on the cheeks and attach them to the faceplate. Logic is [if I'm correct] the silver thingies are attached to the faceplate once the helmet opens, attached on the cheeks once the faceplate detaches. Kinda serves as a lock if you ask me.

I'm still filling the gaps made by me separating these parts. So more pics up soon. Thanks!

Re: Iron Man Mk42 Version 3 Updated 7/26 New pics

yea, in the movie it appears that these cheek piece as well as the forehead piece ( i attached on mine) are like an electro magnetic open/close locking system... when he pops the face off in the woods it appears like a magnetic force of it, as well as the magnet connecting a circuit that makes the eyes go off when the connection is broken...

Yup. It appears like that. Hopefully someone here can develop a system for it. But in the meantime I'll stick to the regular motorized helmet mechanism hehe.

Glad I'm done with the modifications on the helmet. Also filled the upper vent on the forehead.
Got it primered as it stopped raining today. Yay me! But, due to the thinning process I did on the insides of the helmet to have more space, cracks appeared during the fiberglass reinforcement on the main body, so I may need to fill it a lil more. Anyhow, here are some pics.

Moving to the legs next. Still thinking about the knee hinge setup. *sigh*

Thanks for checking!

Re: Iron Man Mk42 V3 Modified Helmet Done 8/3

FANTASTIC WORK! Question I'm looking to build a MK42 also, and was wondering where you got your foam from? Thanks

I got my foam from sears. Best foam. You can find it in either their hardware or sporting goods department

Re: Iron Man Mk42 V3 Modified Helmet Done 8/3

What kind of play mat? I want to do this to my mark 7

It doesn't have any brand name though. I'll take pictures once I buy some more again. Right now I ran out :(

Thanks! I buy my materials from a local hardware shop here, doesn't have any brand name either. I use 6mm for the base armor and 3mm respectively for the details.

Well I finally managed to find some time to work on the legs yesterday. Glad that my idea worked out great for the legs.
And yes, here they are...knee covers! :)

Still haven't applied the knee hinges yet though.

That's all for now. Still thinking about the knee hinge that won't hinder my movement. Thanks for checking!

Re: Iron Man Mk42 V3 Knee Covers 8/5

Nearly done with the slightly battle damaged helmet, just needs the topcoat clear to prevent further damage/dents to the helmet while wearing.
Yay!

Re: Iron Man Mk42 V3 Updated 08/08

And so I did a pre-suit up test a while ago to see where my progress has been at while squeezing my own armor with the commissions I took. Looks pretty bad-ass if you ask me. But still lacks a handful of details and some minor adjustments, especially the strapping and the needed space for the electronics I plan to add. Hopefully it gets to match up with the helmet fairly enough to take it on a walk. This is by far the slowest build I took to finish my own armor. *sigh*. But all's not lost.

And my body's not cooperating at all. The space I used to have inside the suit ain't the same anymore! Damn.

Sealing and painting soon. Thanks for checking my thread out. Cheers!

Thanks! I used jackie's IP neck file and modified it by hand.

Here's the current status of the suit. Couple more layers of bondo and primer and it's gonna be good to paint!

Thanks! Go ahead and make one! Jackie released his mk42 files for use already. Just some minor parts left to do and his suit files will be done. His are the easiest ones to do so far.

The gloves arrived from docholiday. All I can say is amazing. Topnotch work. Moblity is superb. Although I gotta get a new set of inner gloves as mine are quite thick and can't fit inside. I modified a few pieces and heated the insides so they get rounded, installed therealstark's set of repulsors and hooked a jack in place of the speakers. Now my problem's finding a louder and more compact speaker to fit inside the suit. 1 speaker for each repulsor, 1 speaker for the arc reactor and 1 speaker for my walking sfx thingy. Oh boy.

Here's a quick vid I made a while ago.

Hey buddy..are you using bondo on the foam? Sorry is I missed this in the thread.

Re: Iron Man Mk42 V3 Gloves/Repulsors Done Updated 8/22

That's one cool way to make it work!

Yup I am. That's okay. I use epoxy primer [2 part one] spray it using an air compressor 3-4 coats, sand, bondo holes and seams, sand. Then primer and paint. Long method for sure. :(

I don't have anything to show yet, but here's a little something. I'm nearing closer to the finish line once more.
