Hey guys. Been busy with work and other stuff and all but I have managed to create a new thread, yey!

So...

This thread will be dedicated to both suits I'm building right now for the premiere of Iron Man 3. Yes I've built 1 before but I never was satisfied with it. It comes in with my nature I guess.

Would like to express my deepest gratitude to Jackiesrockin's IP Pep files and IMIM2/Helagak's mk47 templates supplied me the guidelines for the chest, back and legs.

And to end all queries, YES, I AM USING PEPAKURA TEMPLATES and I MODIFY them to fit my body type and to be more accurate as I am using a mixture of materials. This is for this build only. The previous mk47/42 suit I built was purely done in freehand, except the hands and helmet.

About the tutorial vids?

-Yes I made the tutorial vids and don't worry guys I'll be posting them after a day or 2 as it is currently being uploaded.

So to start, here are some pictures :

Thanks to gimpee for the helmet file.

as for the Iron Patriot, a friend of mine asked me to do 1 for him, unfortunately I never got some pics of wearing it completely, but here are some pics I managed to get before I shipped it.

WOW! great craftmanship

Why thank you. :)

This is great! Just the motivation I was looking for haha

Thanks! I hope I motivated you enough to start yours too! :cool

That's a cool foam build!....

Thanks delray! :thumbsup

I love it!

Thanks! :)

A little update.
I'm nearly done with the details and all and gonna start with the back. Yeah, this time I'm working my way downward. From the helmet, down to the shoes. A little opposite than before.

And yes, those are 3 chests. 3 suits in the making. :confused

As you can see I've done a lot of mods to the chest and added a lot of details to make it accurate. But still, I'd like to thank IMIM2/Helagak for the file as it helped me a lot. Especially with the scaling.
Here's some details I modded.

And to those who haven't seen my previous suit, here's some pictures I managed to grab before it flew off of my hands. :lol

Still have to fill some spots and dents in the helmet. Other than that should be ready in a couple of days.

I purchased a unibeam reactor from therealstark and will be incorporating it in this suit. Made the case care of a friend. Real beauty if you ask me.

Re: Iron Man 3 : Iron Man mk47/42 v2.0[Updated 2/7]

Where did you find the foam for this build? I've been inspired by this and xrobots iron man. I'd love to use a sturdier foam than what I have now. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for subscribing. :thumbsup The foam I use is usually found in our local hardware stores. Rubber sheets are quite abundant here.

Some updates. I'm done with the helmet. Just some polishing and minor touchups needed. It's made from Sintra and rubber.

Re: Iron Man 3 : Iron Man mk47/42 v2.0[Updated 2/8]

Wtf o_O what is that?!??? I definitely need those sheets soon!!! :D

Would you mind to share the name/art. number? :)

Btw: awesome build man! :D you do it the right way :popcorn

Thanks man! Will upload a pic of the raw material later. I'm just busy with some projects that I need to finish.

Here are the links for the coating method I'm doing.

Sanding before primer. Will make the edges smooth and easy to coat.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smsRBrc7GPU

After that will be the primer stage. Unfortunately I haven't made a video for it yet.

After 2-3 coats, you sand the armor piece and put body filler or bondo on some areas that still show pinholes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP2w2buKDCY

Once done you can top coat the armor piece. See this video for the strength test of the coated armor.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Just busy with some other projects.

Re: Iron Man 3 : Iron Man mk47/42 v2.0[Updated 2/15] Vids are up!

this is really awesome! but not gonna lie i am a bit lost....the helmet is it made of the 2 materials? or is it foam covered in that Sintra stuff? and wat is ur method of coating the armor with? it looks almost like a paint so im hopping that its actually something simple to do. it looks like from the vids that it makes the foam very durable and thats something i would like my next armor to be so that i can go out in it and not worry about it getting destroyed on its first outting

Re: Iron Man 3 : Iron Man mk47/42 v2.0[Updated 2/15] Vids are up!

My thoughtd exactly RandomHero, the paint over the foam is my biggest dissapointment with foam builds. but your past Mk47 looks superb.. is it paint over sintra?? or paint over foam???

and 3 makr 47s???? Taking on builds? ;)

The helmet faceplate and upper/backplates are made from rubberfoam. The white parts are made from sintra board. Sintra is very durable. No need to add foam over that material. Hope that helps.

It's paint over foam mate, or rather, epoxy primer over foam. The previous builds I took was made from pure rubber foam. Only this time did I learn how to incorporate sintra with my builds. Epoxy primer is the one I use to coat my armor pieces. Up to 3-4 coats. Then sand and bondo the areas that still show pinholes, and the seams so they won't look visible anymore. Then sand again. I think the equivalent of epoxy primer in some other countries is the filler primer, but I'm not sure though, because I also use epoxy primer for the final coat, before the top coat. BTW I use a spraygun and an air compressor to spray the epoxy primer [together with a thinner]. It comes in two parts, the main paint and a catalyst.

Once you've coated foam with epoxy primer, it will become sturdy. You can also coat the inside using a brush, then apply fiberglass and matting to make it more durable. I usually do that for my helmet builds. Fiberglass tends to stick to rubber covered with glue, then fall off over time. With epoxy primer on the rubber, fiberglass tends to stick on it permanently, as I noticed the holes of rubber covered with epoxy primer absorbs the resin, making it rock hard.

Re: Iron Man 3 : Iron Man mk47/42 v2.0[Updated 2/15] Vids are up!

well, I just got my epoxy primer today. Gonna give it a shot this weekend. Any last minute advice ? I'm making grooves and details in the pieces, but I'm worried they'll be erased by the epoxy coating...
