Iron Man Mk3 Build

So I've had a week without A/C,:cry laying out six grand for a new system, :cry :cry, :sick then a rapidly growing dissatisfaction with the way my shoulder bells are coming out!:angry Can't bear to turn out anything less than perfect. Surreal understands.. I am fundamentally satisfied with my neck seal...so far my only "success"
*SIGH*
The good thing is forced inactivity = some time spent on the net doing research and looking for better techniques. Also found someone to look at my work and teach me molding techniques. My hope is to convince them to teach me hands on some of the most advanced molding techniques. Yep, I am going to mold the whole suit... I think the results will be worth it.
Think I may have found something as well to do a better job covering the pepakura and prepping it for molding. Sounds like I have been productive? Sort of, doesn't actually feel like it. I haven't moved any of my builds forward physically, but the old addage, measure twice, cut once really is becoming something of a mantra here in my house/ creative mad scientist lair. I will be posting results after some trial work.:)
More later!

Still here! Just busy as heck with my WM build and some....issues! All resolved now! Eagerly getting back to work!!

The micarta material is really interesting and would come in handy for a lot of builds I'm working on. Thanks!

No I haven't died or quit LOL! :rolleyes

Just super busy with my job, working on War Machine and putting together my fallback Capt Merica costume as well as modifying my wifes costume for the super hero costume party we are going too!!

Here is something I hit on that will help with all my builds so thought I'd pass it on.:behave

So if you are like me....and whose not when it comes to being fussy about my build that is.:$:lol

Simple tip folks might like;
I hate when I am resining my pepakura how the edges sag when they get wet with the resin..
Simple cure,
Wait till the resin is no longer wet and take a bunch of popsickle sticks and rubber band them together like this...

In essense you are making a cheap clip.
then you take sticks to make braces on the sagging edges and clamp them like this....

and like this....

Basically you are making a clamp/brace affair that can stay in place till the resin is 100% cured.:)

I guess you could put wax paper in between if you were afaid the resin might stick..to the stick

You may ask why not use file clamps (the black metal ones) they work but are expensive, you might have to go get them and the tension is not adjustible. You can simply move your rubber bands up or down on the stick, increase or decrease wraps to make the grip softer...so it doesnt crush things, I even was able to T-Pee the braces into a V then lightly clamp it to keep the V shap I wanted on the edge!

Works for me, hope it helps others.

I look forward to your MRK III build continuation , but with talk like that you are going to give me an Ego :lol
Really glad you are happy with the Helmet my friend.

electraflier you're in Altamonte Springs, damn right up the road from me. Do you have any advice on products to buy from Reynolds. I took a couple molding classes there, but I'm not sure about going from PEP to finish.

So I am super happy today!!! I recieved, literally, hours apart my Bolt set from the Amazing Masked Rider aka Leslee and my Surreal/ TheRealStarks aka Matt and Ryan Unibeam!!!:love:love:love:love
I only have time right now to post my pics of the bolt set, and I still owe Master Surreal a huge apology for not jumping on the helmet pics of his masterful creation..:devil .ah the joys of personal issues...but I am making a strong comeback!!:D
Here are the bolts!

These will go with my BigTurks outstanding cast bolt set for the rest of the armor....:thumbsup

I am very fussy and there are folks who are "Purists" who may not like that I dont build every little part of my suit, but I am a very busy person and spending 40+ hours (yes, I am that d=fussy ) to make my shoulder bolts for the War Machine look close to right, convinced me that if some masterful person could produce such a skilled product for a very reasonable fee, it is well worth the time savings, not to mention the cost of trial and error and supplies and my sanity as well as my wifes lol to just pony up the bucks for as perfect as it can be....hmmmm? seems a no brainer to me!!.:cool

So yes I buy from the masters, but will be building the majority myself!!! I have some pretty well developed skills lol (see War Machine build lol) but hate wasting time and money on my nit pickiness lol!!

I am about ready to start pepakura again using the Dancingfools beautiful pep files...the goal will be to incorporate these lovely parts into the build from the beginning vs trying to stuff them in later on like an after thought...the results should be awesome!!
Unibeam and helmet pics to come!!

My Thanks to Matt aka Surreal and Ryan aka TheRealStark for these last two pieces of my bought MK3 items!!! Well, except for electronics of course!! Have to buy another faceplate mech from Ryan and the walking sounds ect, but as far as the suit!!!!! Here is the Helmet and Unibeam 2.0!!! Absolutely spectacular!!!

Here is the awesome helmet!!

I am telling you that the Myans went forward in time to take lessons on making seams from Matt!!! They are razor sharp and lazer straight!!!:ninja

and lastly, The brothers!!

Thank you gentlemen! I am proud to add these to my build!!!
M

Electraflier, simply amazing work, kudos on your resourcefulness and ingenuity. Was skimming through the thread, could you post a link to the pep files you used? Builds like this really inspire me. Have almost finished my helmet, but have no files for the suit. Could you help a brother out? Thanks. And keep it up!!!
