Iron Man MK 1:Assembly Video Added

I started working on my Mark 1 over the christmas break and things are coming along slowly but surely.

I am almost finished the main components of the back mechanical assembly.

I was hoping I might find a few parts that were close to the hero components...but after coming up with nothing more than the tank after a few good weeks of scouring the net I started to make everything from scratch.

Once all of the main parts are made they will be painted and mounted on an aluminum back plate so that the wires and final dressing can be added.

The magneto (if thats what it is) has a motor inside so the timing belt will spin through the main assembly and around the 3 smaller timing pulleys.

Looking absolutely perfect just like I knew it would Jason. ;) Hope the helmet and future armor lives up to all the mech that you build. :) Keep it coming. :thumbsup

Re: Ironman mark 1

Here are a few pics of the magneto assembly build up.

I have also been trying to find any of the wardrobe items.

The only item that I have managed to track down so far are the boots.

For anyone else working on something like this the boots were

Magnum 8154 Stealth II Side Zip Boots

The boots are discontinued so you may have to dig a bit to find them.

If anyone has any information about the welding jacket that was worn it would be much appreciated if you post the information.

Re: Ironman mark 1

A ton of parts on the chopping block.

A big thanks to Finhead for the great Mark 1 helmet that he supplied. Highly recommended for all of the Tony Stark wannabes out there.

Re: Ironman mark 1

I still have one more main part to machine before finishing up the main assemblies on the back.

I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of the back taken from the side as shown by the red arrow. The part that I dont have much reference on is the piece behind the magneto which the 2 ribbed hoses/tubes come out of.

Any images are much appreciated

Re: Ironman mark 1

And as a final post for the night I wanted to include a link to the reference pics that I have rounded up to date....all thrown together in one nice easy to reference place if you need it.

Have a great night

Shiny bits to dirty bits....

And after the arc reactor I am not sure why I picked a project with more coils...lol.

Re: Ironman MK 1

It's projects such as these that make me realise just how crap my own prop builds really are! :lol

Re: Ironman MK 1

Yep, Jason really knows how to twist those screws! I'll be watching this thread for certain.

With the great plans that you made you should have no problem on this one Kurty...its all right there on the 4 pieces of paper.

What are you building Stark...?

Re: Ironman MK 1

Ahh much better. :thumbsup Only critique I had was that everything looked far too shiny for this build. :lol

Re: Ironman MK 1

I had some time to finish up the painting on the magneto casing.

Hopefully will have the motor mount finished and it up and spinning in a day or so.

I still have to machine out all of the little magnets that you can see around the perimeter of the casing...and that should pretty much buy me one small check mark on the long list of parts for the overall build.

I also did some digging into the welding jacket that is under the armor.

I found this version...which looks pretty close...but I dont remember seeing anything that suggests the branding was covered up on the movie version...so I am not sure if this is the actual supplier. Any one know of others??

Black Stallion Standard Cowhide Welding Jacket from Toughweld Workwear

Re: Ironman MK 1

A big thanks to Talisen and Finhead for forwarding some great MK 1 pictures that I havent seen before. The different angles are a big help with this build.

With their permission these have been added to the flickr site referenced in this thread.

If any one else has some shots that they would like to share please drop me a line.

Hopefully we can get as much info in one place as possible...for anyone finding themselves held captive in a cave.

Re: Ironman MK 1

I spent some time trying to weed through a few more parts on the Mark 1 back mechanics...and have things pretty much wrapped up.

All the bare spots in the pic are for wire/tubing runs....all of the other parts are accounted for in one way or another.

Hoping to have a working assembly by the end of the month provided real work doesnt get in the way.

Re: Ironman MK 1

Good to see you had some time to finish up the layout. What's the scale on that? I would just go by the propane tank but I'm lazy today. ;) lol

Re: Ironman MK 1

Geez, and I though the GB Proton pack was complicated.

Only thing that I see at a glance that stands out is the top of the canister, seem shorter or missing something.

Otherwise, it's damn impressive.

Re: Ironman MK 1

Top part is where the hose attaches into the tank, screws on after. He stated that all the hose runs etc are left out of the drawing. ;)

Yes...its pretty crazy as a scratch build. Searching for just the right parts was prooving to be a wasted exercise unfortunately.

Even the top of the Tank (which you spotted missing in the layout...good eye) turned out to be a pain to source. The right one got phased out a couple of years ago...even though all of the literature every where you look shows the correct one. Its gone from vertical ribs to a wave to a completely brass unit. I managed to find one when I was in a local mom/pop hardware store with some dusty old stock.

Thanks for the post.
