Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP. ALMOST DONE

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

There's a lot of techniques out there for "hardening" the foam builds. Guesso or PVA glue, and plastidip seems to be the winning combination.

Can't bondo foam. The foam is too flexible to support the rigid bondo. Will crack for sure. None of these things harden the foam, they just seal the foam for painting.

Bondo on foam defeats the purpose of a foam build anyway. If you want to sand and have a perfect finish, pep the thing to start with.

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

That´s right, Shades! It´s a heck of a work, but man, it´s a heck of a lot of fun!

As I had some time off tonight I thought I should give the hands some TLC,and so I did :) I found one small LED Flashlight and I felt that it could be a good idea to just make the Repulsors, and some completely random parts later, and with no regards to movie-accuracy at all (I´m sorry if this bugs you guys, it does bug me, but if I were to be un-bugged there, it would be un-finished, so there), I made these:

:)

And seriously, I think they look quite nice, and therefore as soon as I find another flashlight, I will make a second one just like that :) Luckily it´s pretty easy to come across these :)

:)

Editing to add some fun facts.

The nicest thing was to assemble the parts that make up for the main center of the Repulsor :)

So, you see, I had a pill box in metal, another made in plastic, a ring and a pair of Nerdy glasses (which I ... well, mine look better, so I never ever ever wore them)....

yes, never.

So, I got the lid of the plastic box, cut off its center, which was all I needed, took a lens off the glasses, CA glued it all together, then placed the Ring over all to make the design and presto ! :)

:)

There you go :) Hopefully this helps out anyone in need.... :)

You know, I´ve been rather delinquent as far as updates go.... however, here I am again... :)

So, this is what it looked like early this afternoon -

and this one, just to show the Repulsors, also known as "Stop! Hammer time!"

Now only a handful of things remain. After that picture I have made the forearms, and so I need to make the hand guards, the fingers, the neck, neck brace , shoes and some detail work. Not too long to start sealing then painting :)

And I´ve already made this week Thor´s pants, Black Widow´s belt pouches, got Hawkeye´s bow , and almost finished Wonder Woman, which I am to send Adam Jay in Australia in a couple of days :)

One of Black Widow´s pouches -

Tomorrow, finishing Wonder Woman, making some more things on Ol´Shellhead and make more things :)

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

Not bad at all, you´re off to a great start there :) Congratulations :) I hope that any of the pictures in this thread may serve you as some help...

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

Indeed, not bad at all. Not to be a curmudgeony old man, far be it from me, but considering you´re rather "young" in the RPF, so to speak, I would advise you against doing something like that to another thread. You are fully entitled to start a thread of your own, in so being that you are a member, but this here is called "hijacking" a thread, and there are many people who wouldn´t be as kind-hearted as I am in telling you that, instead they might resort to calling bad names and all.

Again, I would like to commend your efforts, just to say that small tidbit of information that might prove useful in your continuing future on this remarkable place :)

:)

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

You are welcome. This is a tidbit of information that, again, WILL prove useful here. There are some of the old grey wolves like me who aren´t as patient as I am in explaining the young cubs how the pack works. :) With someone else this might get you bitten:)

Anyway, I am really glad to see that more people are making it :) I would issue a few pointers, but considering your build is far too advanced, perhaps I should just hold my peace :)

:)

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

Great job Hermes! loving the progress man a very beautiful build! i kinda need to trim my upper armor parts like yours though, mine kinda looks warmachine like i think yours is more accurate.

a comment on mr. IronLeoMan as well i admit that i was a bit offended as well i thought it was just me but now i knew it was called hi jacking because you did it to my mark 7 thread too and i admit i was kinda pissed. yes it is a very decent build i must say but it would be really nice to make your own thread

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

I hope he can learn, he´s a young cub :) A little paw over the head might go a long way now :)

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

yeah i kinda learned too im a young cub as well thanks for pointing it out :) im really excited to see yours finish. question if you dont mind, what sort of red would be appropriate for the mark 7? i tried silver red on my mark 6 i got the look that i wanted, but never was really satisfied. what do you suggest?

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

Baden, my first suggestion is .... well, I don´t know the colors of red in Phillipines, or even in the US, for I live in Brasil, BUT I can safely say that if you first seal the armor with PVA glue (a lot of it) and cover it in a very dark red, say, Lucifer Red, as they say here, and airbrush it with accents of a metallic red, you can´t go wrong. :)

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

i see.. we usually use spray cans.only the big time armor makers have airbrushes but i am trying to look for cheap ones here.ill try to experiment on that, thanks for the tip! :D

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

You ´re welcome, but if you have access to a good metallic red spray, it´ll work for the second coat :)

Re: Iron Man - Mark SEVEN WIP.

You can seal it with PVA glue and then spray paint it normally :) The sealing process is just painting over the entire armor with common Elmer´s glue.... something like 5 layers would do fine.
