Iron Man Mark 7 build - first attempt at papercraft ** ARC reactor files added!

Hi, my name is David, and (as I know) I am the first Hungarian guy who tries to build an Iron Man suit.

I use DarkSide's Pepakura files (thanks so much, they are awesome) and use 200g paper. As I'm an engineering student, I have some great ideas for the suit's mechanical parts.

I'll use Texas Instruments' MSP430 microcontroller to control servos, LED-s and other circuits.
I'll have circuits in the hip pods that symbolizes Iron Man's heat seeking countermeasure system, a TDA2030A amplifier connected to a WTV020 woice module and two 15 Watts speakers. The ARC reactor will have some light effect, and I'll put servos in the shins (flaps), tha lower forearm (missiles and in the back (flaps) and the faceplate.

I have started to design an exoskeleton strapping system same as James (from Xrobots.co.uk - I like Jason's work, he is so good) but with little modifications.

That's all for now, here's some pictures of the progress, see more at my Facebook page. (Unfortunatelly it's in Hungarian, but there are a lot of photos to see the progress)

Your pep work looks very tidy sir...best of luck with it. Sounds like you know what you are doing.

I like your Ideas for electronics. If you make how to tutorials to go along with your build I'm sure you will be VERY popular here ;)

Thank you so much, I am trying to do my best to build a really good armor. I have some more ideas that I don't want to share yet (because I don't know how to make them :D )

Actually I'd like to make some how to videos, but if I won't, I'll write step-by-step instructions, and share all of my work (PCB layouts, 3D files, etc.)

love the ideas you have it seems you have thought about this very much :) your build is looking awsome buddyy :) i too am starting a mk 7 aswelll , my threads on here too but its my second time building it hence y its called iron man mk 7 v2 lol but great work man

I've checked your thread, I like it, you've done a great work on it!

A few weeks ago I designed an ARC reactor - from movie Avangers - it can be built out of aluminium, MDF or plexi, etc. You can use 53 pieces of 5 mm deameter LEDs in it. The reactor isn't too thick, the assembled size is 80×25 mm. If anybody want to build it, I can share it with everyone. Here's a pic.

You can build it. I have 3 versions of this model, the first one has only two parts, the front board, (the triangle parts, and the back) easy to 3D print, or make with CNC machines.
The second one is a more complicated one (I made it because in Hungary CNC milling is very expensive), that contains 4 sheets invidually, (two front pieces, two with holes for the LEDs, a cylinder and some little pieces (to separate blue and white LEDs), and a round opal plexi. This is much cheaper, but you have to assemble it.

I also designed a circuit for this ARC reactor, that has two functions, a simple light, and a flashing one (slow sparkling).

Awesome work there man. I especially like the detailed pics. Keep up the good work...GM

can i get the 4 piece one ?? would love to give it a go

As I promised, here's the ARC reactor files (in Solidworks file format). There's an assembled model that can help building it, or may be used for 3D printing.

Some tips and explanation for building:
The big triangle and the inner triangle parts are the easiest to make by 3D printing, but with some more work, you can make them at home too.
You have to glue Cover bottom and top part together
You can put fewer LEDs in it (I tried to maximize the number of them), or replace them with SMD LEDs (it gives you a thinner ARC reactor, but more difficult to solder)
One part is missing from my project: a 75 diameter opal PMMA sheet (but it's easy to imagine :D )
If anybody want to make a circuit with two functions (without microcontrollers) - normal light and one with a pulse effect. -, ask for it, and I'll share it too.

Hope you like it, if you fgot any questions, feel free to ask :)
So here's my ARC reactor:

Thanks for sharing. Going to use this to make an AI template and laser these out :D.

Here's the schematic of the ARC reactor's circuit. Easy to build (I may offer kits, and assembled boards too), small and cheap.

SW1 is a normal ON-OFF switch, SW2 is an SPDT ON-ON one. R4's value depends on the number of LED-s.
