Iron Man Mark 7 - Arc reactor - In Progress

Here is my Mark 7 Arc Reactor In progress.

Feed back is always welcome. This is my first time building a costume like this and this website rules!!! I hope my progress reports can help others out as people here have helped me tons already.

Pardon for the question, which are the main differences of this arc to MK 2 and 3? they all look the same to me.

So hear are the photos of the things i used to create it. Pretty simple actually. still need to do some painting and light the outer ring.

The clear part is actually made from the plastic dispenser that the copper wire came in. the brand is posted in the new photo. Thank you for the kind words!

To tell you the truth not much. a triangle in the middle lol. I'm going mainly off the Iron Man 2 image I found.

Im basing my reactor off of this photo. I'm trying to be a little loose with my version of it. I think when things are to fine tuned they start to look like a prop. Like Captain Americas outfit in the Avengers.

Not to be wisecracking but that isn't the RT used in the mk VII armor. That is the arc reactor that is used with the mk IV and V. This reactor uses a paladium core which is slowly intoxicating stark in IM 2. He then creates a new element to replace the paladium and the 'new element' reactor is used in the mk VI which is developed to incorporate the new and more powerful reactor. This is the reactor he continues to wear throughout the avengers movie and in the mk VII armor.

It still looks like a nice arc reactor though.

I agree. I have seen all the movies. I just could never get a clear shot of his reactor in the mark 7 so i wasn't sure what mark to call this one.

Doing some detailing today. updates tonight.

Not that it will help you NOW , but here's a few pics that I snapped with my phone of the newly built arc reactor for the MkVI/VII from the paused Bluray. The first three pics show the arc reactor right after Stark places the new element in, as the reactor is "accepting" the element.

The last two pics are as Stark is installing the new reactor into his chest for the first time (as the toxins reverse). One thing that I find interesting is how different the reactor looks between the two sets of images. Production inconsistency? Something else going on with the operation of the reactor that wasn't shown on camera? Dunno. But, in the end, I based my build on the latter pic, as trying to get a convincing blue triangle to light up was causing me some strain. :cry

That looks great! Did you machine the metal for yours? thanks for all the tips. I find so many different opinions on this. blah. I like yours though. i may try to build another If it wasn't fun I wouldn't do it, right?

and if you have a build blog or tutorial im sure my question can be answered on there so you dont have to tell me twice lol.

My arc reactor started its life as this...:lol

I created a layered file in AutoCAD with all of the parts to create the arc reactor using this container. I used a 24-LED light from my local hardware store (Menards) as the light source...

I painted the top of the container Krylon Fusion Bright Silver after cutting out the triangle pattern. All of the black interior sections have been cut out of 2mm craft foam and hot glued. I glued a piece of a milky colored plastic lid to the back of the foam as a diffuser.

If you want the parts, email me and I can send them to you and explain a bit more on what I did. I may try and do a quick pictorial write-up later on once I take it back out of the suit. I think I have a total of about $6 invested, including the $3 for the food that was in the container. :love

That's awesome. You sparked a great idea. I went in 3ds max and built the reactor then printed, hot glued and whipped this guy up last night. Thanks again for all of your knowledge and photos - they helped a lot. Here are the latest images of my reactor.

Wow, this is a lot of information. I'm doing the Mark III arc reactor some time soon for my suit. I just wanted to say that everyone's arc reactors look great. And thanks for all of the helpful hints.

It's not made from metal at all. If you scroll up some, you will see some links that I posted for the materials used. The body of the reactor as well as the silver face is a food container. All other parts are either 2mm craft foam or plastic.

Okay, It really looks like metal! Very good work! I actually plan to cut some 2mm sick metal using a CAD file I've made and a laser cutter
