Iron Man helmet (First attempt at building)

Okay, so this is our first time using pepakura and building anything so bear with us. This helmet is more of a tester and we will most likely make another one. We plan on putting in lights and motorized hinges in so any tips, constructive criticism, or anything that could possibly help us out would be greatly appreciated :).

I do have one question though, for the inside of the eyes are we suppose to cut those out? If so when should we do it and how much should we cut out?

Thanks,

The Dubean33 - Sharkhead HD Iron Man helmet v2.1 - Unfolded by Dubean33 was used if any of you were curious.

What type of paper did you use? I would raelly suggest investing in the 110 lbs cardstock. It makes your life way easier and gives a much better result. I had to learn that the hard way. Nice first try though.

I agree with NickPugs, heavier paper works way better. I use 130 lb myself but i only find it on ebay

Your helmet looks good so far... just be careful on hardening it, make sure you maintain the shape... some paper tube inside the helm will serve as a support to keep the shape and prevent it from warping during hardening... this also applies even you used a thicker paper to make the helm...;):thumbsup

If anything else, you may look at this as a reference... http://www.therpf.com/f24/ironman-mkvi-pep-helm-aiming-99-movie-124100/

Oh BTW, welcome to the community...:)

cheers!

Thanks for the link your helmet has actually made me want to try and making one...I think they look absolutely fantastic and I will be refering back to your helmet :thumbsup
I also really like the way you did your lights, and when it comes to that I hope we can find the parts to make them.

Re: Iron Man Mark VI helmet (First attempt at building)

Hi guys, a noob here. I'm working on my first pep helmet and I'm using the 110lbs paper stock but doesn't look pretty solid but I haven't join the "jaw" piece nor the face plate(more of the face plate below) because I'm thinking of making it to open the face plate and the jaw part to drop a little but here's my question should I join all the pieces together and then when I harden it cut the face plate off and jaw part to make it look and do this?:

(picture from Mighty John junkyard)

or should I work with the pieces separately?

about the face plate I'm using sharkhead7854 prints to make the helmet and I think some parts that attach the below face plate with the eyes it's outside of the printing files and I think I'm missing those pieces to attach those 2 pieces together Today will be a week of working 3 to 4 hours every day and I'm getting pretty close to finishing it but like I said it doesn't look solid and I'm afraid it won't hold its shape when I apply the fiber glass to it???? any tips Please!!!

UPDATE: Finally finished resining the inside and outside of the helmet. I still think it turned out better than I originally expected lol. We're still unsure if we are going to build another one or not it just depends on how it looks when we put the body filler on it. Shleedel glued it all together and I'm (ViiX) a perfectionist so if things don't match up it's going to really bother me haha :lol

ShleedelViix: I'm actually getting ready to Rondo/Bondo my first helmet as well, so I'm interested to read what people will say. I know that sanding is a preferred method and I've read of a lot of the more seasoned people using Dremel tool for details... I may be wrong, but I've got both standing by when I make the jump this weekend.

HopHey guys, sorry for not updating in a while but we decided to start another build. Whenever we finish putting the new one together I will post a new thread.

Yeah I was going to say, you laid that bondo on...THICK. :cry

Haha yeah I tried to tell the person who was applying the bondo thaat it was too think, but he got butthurt and wouldn't listen to me :facepalm

The new one is slowly but surely getting done, and is looking a whole lot cleaner than the first one.
