Iron Man / Boba Fett crossover helmet WIP *new pics*

I repainted the earpucks today with a slightly mettalic red that looks a lot better than the cheesy bright red they were before. Here are some shots of my current mock up from different angles. I have been trying to practice weathering techniques to make the scratches look better, but unfortunately weathering is probably my biggest weakness. There is only so much that tutorials and videos can teach, it's just going to take practice I guess.

looks darn good to me!
And anyway, you know what they always say about weathering? "Less is more" :)

Thanks, and I totally agree with the saying, I've seen some nice builds turned to garbage with outlandish weathering, IMO. Being pretty new at this, I just need to keep practicing and looking for tutorials and stuff.

nice work/concept deserves a shout out! :)

*Good weathering requires knowing when to stop.

I find that extra extra fine steel wool helps with the process.

the trick is to also apply it where the object would be touched most often with a few random knicks from battle and happen-chance.

love the eye scratch too!

I have been playing around with the weathering the last few days to no avail. I tried posting a thread asking for ideas and links for doing scorch/burn/blaster damage and got 2 replies, so no help there. I plan on continuing to trudge through youtube, the 405th, the501st, everywhere I can to find the tricks of the trade so I can practice. I am going to work on a simple led setup for the eyes and be done for now. I did take a pic of myself wearing it the other day so here it is !

Hey Hammer.. sorry I haven't posted sooner...
Just wanted to say that your IronFett helmet looks amazing. I think the two Characters just some how go together.. which is the main reason I went with them for the As You Wish Project. :thumbsup

It's a great thing when fellow prop makers have the same ideas, but seeing them come to life by different artists is what makes this hobby great. I did read on Facebook and here on the RPF your disappointment when the teaser pics were released of my version... but I was thrilled that you decided to finish yours. Great choice.

So keep up the good work and let me know if there is anything I can help with. P.S I had a TON of trouble with the mouth..it drove me crazy trying to make it even. A wise man told me "make it an even mesh between the two characters, and don't lose the "Fett" ".

Good Luck, and again great work!!

Thank you so much Alex, it means a lot ! I had a similar voice of wisdom early in my build on this thread too. You did an amazing job with your helmet and for an awesome cause too, Thank you from all of us for contributing to the As You Wish Project. I just wish I could get the weathering to turn out half as decent on mine. Thanks again and good luck with the auction !
