Iron Man Arc Reactor - $15 Build

I got bored today so I decided to upgrade my Iron Man arc reactor using some cheap parts from the hardware store. It took only a few hours to build and turned out pretty good. Its not screen accurate but it looks great inside my Mark IV. Please let me know what you think, and if you'd like a step by step or parts list let me know and I can post it.

Thanks!

Great work. Next time, you'll have to enter the 1$ store contests that are held here. Well done.

Please don't post the parts list. I have too many half finished projects...wait...did you say "a few hours" ? I suppose that I could work on it while something else is waiting for paint or glue to dry...

Awesome work. Please do post.

Here is the list, it looks like alot but most of the parts are around a dollar, the most being $5 for tap lights.

(2) 10 oz. plastic cups (for the ring)
(1 pack) Black coax cable staples (used to hold to copper wire)
(?) Copper wire (I had scrap from previous projects laying around)
(1) Mesh sink strainer (Cut and used for the mesh in the middle)
(1) 1-1/4" Insulated Bushing, painted black (middle section)
(1) Tub Strainer (Larger holes used for the bottom of the front)
(1) Electrical tape plastic container lid (used to hold the ring, strainers, and locknut, then glued to the top of the 3" drain, sanded to diffuse light)
(1) Basket Strainer Locknut (fits inside the electrical tape cap)
(1) 3" PVC floor drain (painted black)
(1) Universal Tub Faucet Handle (Clear)
(1) 3-pack of tap lights. I took them apart and used the a lens underneath the 1-1/4" insulated bushing, sanded to diffuse the light more) and also used the leds, 8 pointed forward, 2 pointed back. (4 more wouldnt hurt in the front.

I decided to make the back end glow to give it the effect you see in the movies when its taken out of the chest. If you want to keep it lower profile to fit inside a suit you can leave the back part off.

Would love a tutorial on this!! With pics of each part used and the method in making it look like this

I can put together a step-by-step for you. I took some photos while building it. Give me a few days to get it posted. Thanks for the comments so far!

That is very cool for $15 and a couple hours! I agree,if you have time to even post a brisk step-by-step on your process for building one.

Cool build. :thumbsup

I'd like to see a step by step tutorial as well, if you have the time. I love looking through build threads.

Sorry it took so long to get this added but I have been crazy busy for the last few days. Sorry for the poor step by step but the pics I took during the build werent the greatest. If you need clarification on any of the steps let me know.

Thanks!

I love this design. I'm wondering if I want to go this route and make my own too or buy something more screen accurate. Like I'm wondering how much accuracy is worth to me right now, lol. But this is also inspirational. I hope I can come up with something this cool.

and CHEAP!

Sweet!

Looks like a simple build since my RR Armor is on hold until after I move, thanks for the awesome how to!
