Iron Man 3 "MARK 8 Armor" foam build

now i want function as well as looking good....so what i did with the elastic and foam.

i ran the elastic straping at the proper angles from the inner parts of the should cap to the inner part of the chest and the back

finding the proper places on the inside to attach the elastic is key. you wanna make sure there not to close to the edges so that a piece can slide along the elastic and tuck behind the outer armor pieces

by taking 2 pieces of foam and glueing them on both sides of the elastic together... without glueing the elastic to the foam. this allows the full stretch of the elastic between the foam pieces.

this method helps minimze any visable undersuit spots and the elastic helps realign the shoulder cap and keeps it where it should be in a relaxed position

i will upload videos showing the range of motion (which is ample)

i will soon create a little step by step tutorial on how i decided to do my arc reactor which actually screws into the suit

the video is gonna have to wait...but this pic should show the range of motion pretty well

here a few pics on how i put my arc together

1.. take the back of the led tap light and glue it to the base of the sink housing

2.. twist in the led tap light (allows for removal of the light to change batteries

3 fits nice and centered

4 remove the lense from the magnifing glass

5 i used a little clear plastic O ring that came with one of the sink attachments and i glued it to the magnifing glass

6 place the magnifing

7 with a seperate sink attachment i glued several small magnets and screen mesh on the back side

8 you can be a little genourus with the glue to ensure the magnets stay

9 detail the front and way you like with whatever

10 attach the front cover to the base shell and press the center....the sink housing i used had a stainless steel lip which allow the magnets to stick

11. the base sink attachment came with this to twist into so i chose to mount that into the armor

12. screw the arc into the armor

Everything i used i found at Ace Hardware...

for the base use a stainless steel sink housing with plactic body 2 1/2 inch i think it was

That whole shoulder area is amazing!! Great work!!

One concern. It looks like your whole chest piece is a bit flat. This could just be from the angle of the pic. If it is too flat, you could heat up the whole piece with a heat gun (don't melt the glue!!) and put a bend in it.

This is really amazing work! Congrats!!

Your way with using the elastic and foam together is awesome, man, keep up the great work. That gives me good ideas for my foam builds, thanks very much! :thumbsup

the shoulder explain left-right movement. How about front-back movement? Will it still okay?
It is very interesting set up that you came up with.:thumbsup

The shoulder region does move front to back just as easy..and the pieces do realign....the main thing i was thinkin when i came up with it was can I reach the helmet and drink a beer

Seems you got it planned ahead.
Shoulder > reach helmet > drink beer
Tony's just peed his suit and got recycled, yours got opening.
Well thought. :lol

Drinking beers, in my opinion is the most important thing to accomplish, ;)
Great work so far! I absolutely love this build. Your attention to detail really shows.

i thought layering the armor plates was a nicer look and showed depth then doing it in one solid piece with dremil detailing
