(Into the Spider Verse) Spoiler-character advice

so I’m putting together a Doc Ock costume and I’m stuck on what material to use for her tentacles. They’re sort of translucent and shiny—not at all like the metal tentacles of past versions. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe foam painted with liquid latex? But maybe there’s some sort of rubber tubing that would look more accurate?

Doc Ock was a great addition in ITSV and I'm excited to see how this turns out! I don't know how best to help, but one thing that comes to mind when I see Doc Ocks arms in the movie is the corrugated medical tubing, but I think that if you're trying to make stiffer arms, for looks, I'd take a look at Lowe's or Home Depots piping area, there's probably something there that will looks about right for it.

If there would be a way to get really long plastic bags, you could inflate them and just put a whole bunch of zip ties going down to get the ribbed effect. The joint between the tentacle and the hand could probably be replicated using a vaccum or pvc connector of some sort

Thanks so much for the advice! So far I’ve also added this to my potential material list. But I agree that the look is much more inflated and soft-looking (like the above plastic bag/zip tie idea). Going to have to start trying things out.

Hey there! I know this is a bit late, but I'm working on a Doc Ock for a client and just thought I'd share a bit of my research.

Currently we're aiming to use .6oz taffeta nylon fabric for the arms, then some sort of compressor/blower to keep them inflated. The nylon is white, semi translucent, and ultra light. It's not quite as clear in the movie, but personally I think it's a decent compromise. You can find it here: 0.66 oz MEMBRANE 10 taffeta nylon

We also found that by stitching a small pleat in the material, then gently tugging on the threads, we were able to achieve a fairly convincing "inflated" look.
