Interesting 1/10 scale Vader figure.

Recently I've really been getting into making 1/10 scale figure using vinyl figures I get from japan, cutting of the main parts, and putting them on these 1/10 scale bodies made by Ohtsuka Kikaku with new undersuits. Sadly OK stop making the bodies, so finding them in stock or discovering a suitable replacement has been tough.

Anyway, as I was browsing around Yahoo! Japan auctions I came across this 1/10 Vader figure also made by them but distributed through Tomy that I'd never seen before. After a little research, I found it on www.starwarsshop.com here: 8" Real Action Darth Vader Metal Figure

So, I lucked out and grabbed one off of Y!J really cheap and when I got it was pretty surprised.

First off the inner body is die-cast metal and pretty d@mn heavy:

The original figure is approximately is ~8" but it comes with limb extensions to make him 8 1/2" tall in the end and also some "build up" parts that help to fill him out a little like on the upper arms, thighs, and hips/groin area. However, the leather suit really doesn't show off these additions being that they are so subtle. I may have to add a little padding of my own creation to remedy his thinness. Really wish he had broad shoulders.

The parts are pretty detailed and the fabric pieces are REALLY well made:

The leather suit closes with thin velcro and the inner robe is lined which was another surprise.

All together it looks like this:

Helmet seems a little wide, but I might make a copy of it and rectify that issue. It comes with 2 different sabers. One that has a loop to fit on the belt (you slide the loop behind the belt) and another to hold and also 2 lightsaber blades. The blades were WAY too long so I cut one down to be more in scale with the figure.

Here it is, compared to a custom figure I made on the left and another one of OK's released figures from another series:

It's a truly awesome piece. Maybe not $100 awesome, but awesome regardless. If I can pick up another off Y!J for the price I got it for I'm entertaining ideas of trying to convert it into and ANH Vader. If you can get one, I'd say do it.

They also made a Boba Fett: available here that's currently on sale at a more reasonable price.

I tried searching the forum to see if anyone else had picked up one but couldn't find anything so I thought I'd make a post about it. Personally I think he's just too cool not to point out. And with him being in 1/10 scale, he stands pretty nicely next to my monitor at work without being so large he blocks anything or is so noticeable people want to grab him and start playing with his limbs, messing him all sort of up.

One last pics for kicks:

Very nice! Now, to show my ignorance... Is Y!J Yahoo! Japan? Do they have a store or an auction site or something?
Thanks for sharing!

Yes, Y!J is Yahoo! Japan. Y!J Auctions is Japan's main auction site. Ebay didn't stand a chance there.

I just won another one off there and I'm waiting to see what the final total is. Hopefully not too bad.

Looks like I'll try converting one of these after all.

Really nice! Your version is worth the $100 (y)eek

Well the one pictured is not my version, it's how it looks right out of the box! I didn't do anything to the one above but put him together and cut the lightsaber blade down to size.

I'll try to convert one of the ones I have into an ANH version after my second one gets here.

So, if you think it's worth the $100, get one. ;)

'May definitely need to pick one of these up for my oldest son. I had seen them before but was wary of the quality for the price.

Question regarding its dexterity: Can it hold a convincing "kneeling" pose?

I'd be very interested in a narrower head, too, if you ever sculpted one...

Thanks,

Thanks,

That's a good question. I'll have to see how well he kneels and take a photo.

What I'm planning on doing is just take the dome off the helmet that's on there now. Mold it, cast it in resin, heat and reshape the resin copy. That way I can keep all the detail and whatnot on the dome and reshape it without too much trouble. We'll see how well that works out.

Regardless, I'll see if I can get that pic taken tomorrow.

Thanks in advance, pics would be great.

I had to take two pics. One without the codpiece and another with a modified placement of the codpiece. (Codpiece was attached to the belt but came of unharmed with a little force in the right place).
