Interested in building a Star Trek Phaser

Hello!
It has been a while since I have been on this site, but I'm glad to be back. I have decided that I would like to attempt to build a Star Trek Phaser either from TOS or TNG. I have a 2 month time frame for this build because I plan on taking it to WonderCon this year. Does anyone have any advice on how to start or any reference photos/ blueprints I could use for this build?

I'm sure I can put something up this weekend. Bill George has some great pictures on his Tumblr page. They're the same ones you see on Gerald Gurian's site, but apparently they're actually George's own shots, and the Tumblr page copies are much higher resolution.
