Insane functioning TOS Tric

That tricorder is just jaw dropping. Amazing.

He must have done the AA as it was the easiest to get his hands on and if he busted it up working on it he had the least to lose.

Just phenomenal!

Star Trek: awesome.

Working Tricorder replica: unbelievable.

Watching Star Trek on a working Tricorder replica: priceless. :lol

Cost of course will take time to come down.

Honestly with the flood of cheap full color displays used in phones, the cost is down right now or at least cheaper then many would expect...

For a simple looping of already created video clips as I suspect was the case here, even at the hobbiest level it could be done for under $100 and not much trouble using smaller displays... You can get cheap mp4 video players on eBay for under $50 with a little kit bashing you are good to go with the basics, if you want a custom build it's not much more expensive parts wise but you will need to have a little more electronics knowledge...

What an amazing replica!

I e-mailed the paisano (his name is Marco) and he sent me a link to his website, where he has a step-by-step tutorial (in Italian, which I do not speak):

Marco Valleggi - TOS Tricorder Working Replica

I have an MR tric, and he offered to retrofit it for me to work like his for close to nothing (under $100). Taking it to the FedEx Office store tomorrow!

If anyone wants his contact info, PM me.

if you use Google Chrome as your browser a drop down will ask you if you would like the page translated. If did it and its not so much a tutorial as a short 'This is roughly what I did'. It doesnt really go in depth. That being said youre (DarthDarren) going to send a very expensive and Out of Production prop to a foreign (Im assuming) country to a guy who says hes going to do all this work and include (?) the MP4 player for less then a $100. Sounds a little too good to be true but good luck and keep us updated.
