Indiana Jones Help

While I don't have the picture you're looking for I do have a comparison. I have a raiders style beautifully handmade 8' whip.. Very high quality. It was the 1st whip I ever got and started to learn on. It was a great choice.
I never mastered it but got the basics down and a few years later purchased a 10' whip . It's not specifically called raiders but it is made by a very well known whip maker, the name is not important. What you need to know is the 10' whip is quite a bit more difficult to get a crack out of period it's a whole new ball game. It's worth keeping in mind when you decide on a whip to buy for actual use and a whip to display.

If you're gonna get one to crack and you're not a pro, I would definitely advise going with the 8' whip. If you want 1 to wear around and you're not gonna crack it generally, you can back off the high end price of a well known makers whip and get 1 that looks very good on your outfit for a lot less money.

Anyone have a picture comparison of a rolled up 8' whip vs the 10' whip. I really want to be able to purchase a nice "real" whip and use it, but also have it look good on display. I'm starting to wonder if the 10' is going to be really difficult to crack, and potentially more dangerous for my face. lol
Here’s a picture of an 8 and 10 foot Raiders by Trinity Whip Company. My first whip was a 10 foot Todd’s costumes and I didn’t have any problems with the extra two feet, just go with whatever you’re more comfortable with.

One year in the 90's for Halloween, I dressed as Indiana Jones at work. I had an empty holster (Temple of Doom) and on the other hip, I had a whip. It wasn't expensive and accurate like these, but it was a real whip. And when there were few or no customers, I would take it out and snap it a few times for the other employees. :p

Sounds like a good time.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing Renegade. I was worried that the 8' would look scimpy rolled up, but it looks just as good. Those both look great. I may stick with the 10' for the reason that I have read it was used most often on the belt loop. I'm gonna give Victor Tella's whips a try.

Good luck to you, if you end up going with Tella would you mind saying what you think of his whips?

Thank you. I would be glad to share my opinion. I'm not sure what it will mean because I have never owned a real whip before, but I will sure share some pics and my opinion. I'm just going off of word of mouth and a youtube review. I'm hoping it will be close to some other well known name brands though.

I just ordered a 10 ft LC whip from Del Carpio.. won't have it for another few months but will post some pics and a review once I get it. Totally psyched about it!

Cool! Can't wait to see how yours turns out too.

So I ordered the 10' Indy whip from Victor Tella. It looks like I will have to wait an expected 5-6 weeks to get it. I had asked him about aging the whip slightly and he said no problem. He sent me this picture for reference. I thought that I would share with anyone else interested. Looks pretty awesome to me.

I don't know how I overlooked your message earlier in the week, but Thank you RayR. That is helpful. I went with the 10' because mostly it will probably just be on display. I will definitely be giving it a try though. Hopefully I will not hurt myself. :)

So I received my whip from Victor. I love it, but it did turn out a bit lighter than I had expected. Also some of you veteran whip owners maybe could tell me if it is normal for certain parts of the whip to bend easier than others. I mean when you hold it out it is more wavy than I had expected. I have seen a lot of picture, and most seem to be perfectly circular when rolled up. Maybe this is normal for a brand new whip and maybe it will seem more even the more I use it. Anyway here is a picture of it. I have gotten some pretty good cracks out of it already. That is fun and addictive.

get some Pecards leather dressing for your whip. You’ll want to condition about once every 6 months, and more if you practice several hours a week with it. As you apply the conditioner, it will naturally darken over time

Thanks Barcslay. I will do that. I had thought about setting it in the sun for a day or two because I read that sunlight will darken it, but I'm worried that it will dry it out too. Maybe I will just try the Pecards after a few months and see how that looks.

Beautiful looking whip you have there!

The whip is going to naturally coil in only one direction, that is the direction you want to perform your "throws" to go into or it may damage your whip. With time and practice you will get used to "feeling" which way the whip will "roll out" or go.

The areas where your whip will flex the most when thrown or cracked may become irregular or a bit misshapen but as long as you're not fighting the natural coil of the whip it won't damage. The whip is hide/skin and will wrinkle and flex since it has an elasticity to it, but as mentioned using Peckard's dressing a few times a year, more depending on frequency of use, climate or if it got wet. This will keep it healthy and strong.

I have kinda noticed that it rolls out easier on one side better than others. Thanks for the tips.
