I was thinking the same thing about the gloves. Just stick your hands into a bag of charcoal and rub it all in, then after wiping off the excess try a little shoe polish. Done.

Your crafted stuff looks great.

Lookin' good. I'm putting together the same costume, but my problem is finding a jacket I can afford. Would it be possible to have you make a whip holder for me? The one I have is awful.
If you want to weather the gloves, the tutorial on Todd's Costumes is really good. I just did it and the gloves look fantastic. I look forward to seeing this all come together!

Yes the parts are just being collected. Weathering usually starts after I get everything in. I would hate to weather a nice pair of shoes, realize they don't fit, and not be able to return them.

Just cracking my whip over the weekend has already started the weathering process on the gloves. Mowing the lawn this Saturday will probably also help!

Looking good Capn'! I'm putting one of these together myself, so I'll be interested to see what your finished costume looks like. Keep us posted.

Be seeing you,

Magnus Darcrider

Made by Harrison Hat Company and resold through Burlington Coat Factory (I found this one at the Fullerton, CA BCF and checking for more this Saturday). 100% wool felt. Not an exact match but still a close and inexpensive facsimile. $15.00 Available in brown, tan, and black.

$15.00 or $300.00? Sorry I just can't seem to find it deep within my Indy or pirate soul to spend that much on a fedora that really is no different in color, shape, and size. I will be remolding this $15.00 fedora to resemble that of the Adventurebilt, Official Indiana Jones licensed fedora that is currently going for $450.00!!!!!

I am already in debt with my Captain Jack....I don't need to be yelled at by the wifey as well!

MK VII is from What Price Glory. Replica although they do have the originals for sale as well. Shirt came from them as well.

Fantastic hat for that price! I have a Burington cose by (untington Beach), so I'll check...

Yeah ok... But I can tell you from more than 6 Costume projects: Some parts come close to useful stuff, but I would never buy a hat for 15$, because Indy is next to BTTF, JP, LOTR, GB and POTC my favorite movie and for all these movies I prefer acurate stuff. The hat looks good, ok, but not acurate. I know a little bit of Indy Stuff, for POTC I check out qualities at the moment. :) And I buy a lot of stuff, and 80% of the stuff I sold it again, because Im not satisfied with the stuff very often.

But thats a thing you must choose by yourself. I build often stuff from cheap parts, too. But if I want something good, what is useable for years, I must buy quality stuff for high prizes...

But thats only WHAT I THINK...

Nah, doesn't matter now. If youre happy then its ok... Really nice gear...

Next Month I order a Low Cost MKII, will take a look on it, maybe I can get some cheap parts, too, what I can use for...

I agree with what you say. I to am a stickler for accuracy but with over $4500.00 invested in REAL POTC items that I purchased and about 80% I made from real accurate parts I will need to stick to the $15.00 version. Besides some of the Jack tricorns out there are going for $250 - $350 during the POTC hype! So I took it upon myself to make my own. Been using it for two years now.

Most of the Indy stuff is already made so I am making all the leather parts myself including holster belt, holster, bullwhip keeper and eventually a 10 foot 12-pleated Indy style whip.

But thats a thing you must choose by yourself.

But thats only WHAT I THINK...

And so... Your point in clearly stating your opinions of Savvy's hat...?

If it IS his choice, then why are you then cluttering his thread with YOUR opinions...?

Just curious...

Man, I only say what I think...

I post not very often here in the RPF, but in other forums everyone can write what he thinks... Or is it just a "Congrats to your costume" Thread... Then Im sorry...

@ Savvy:

I know what you mean. Ive geot enough props and costumes in my life so I choose that I only want to have acurate stuff (98%)

I need no screenused stuff or production material, but if I choose a character for a new costume project, I want that everything looks acurate, doesnt matter if its made from a cheap part or an expensive. In case of Indy I choose that I order one of the AB Hats, because they are acurate and I must pay no taxes/duty, because I can order it from my country, same for the whip and jackets from UK. But sure, if I can get a cheap MKII, Belt Replica I will try this first.

Just wanted to say this... But I shut up, dont want to make foes to me...
:angel

Agreed. A gaggle of “Yes” men serves no value.

But here’s what I’d have said:
“Fantastic start! Regarding the fedora, it is clear that its not a Herbert Johnson, or an Adventurebilt, so I might recommend an upgrade at a later date, but other than that, awesome work! And for that price, you can easliy afford a later upgrade!"

A diatribe regarding one's own standards of prop ad costume collecting, and an enhanced degree of criticism, both serve as little value as the gaggle of “Yes” men, and worse, can be hurtful.

Thanks for understanding. No foe here... Just hopefuly broadening perspectives on feedback.

If I forgot this sentence, sorry... :)

Of course, for that price, its a damn good match. But lets see it how it looks with the costume and on a head...

I actually picked one up tonight... Funny - first I heard it was $10, then $15. Mine set me back $20.

I'd put it just slightly above the Disney hat. Overall shape is about hte same, but the Burlington hat has a softer, crushable felt. So the overall message here I think remains - for the price, and great place-holder until a better hat can be afforded.

The store I went to only had a medium though. :unsure I think I need a Large or XL.

Excellent for you! I am planning on reshaping the bowl as soon as can find some literature on how to manipulate felt wool and make the changes permanent. I am thinking of taking it to a hat shop that might be able to do it for me.

I still cannot justify $450.00 for a screen accurate Indy fedora but I said the same about a $500.00 Captain Jack frock coat....and I broke morally and financially!
