Decided this year for kids at local school will be HULK!!!! Basically right now drawing out plans for foam suit. make a basic 2 piece foam suit add muscles veins later on. I'm 6' tall probably build 4-6" riser for feet trying to figure out some type of exoskeleton to attach foam for calves and forearms maybe a pvc or flexible aluminum skeleton. Build shoulders up to my eyes and build head on top of head possibly able to look out of mouth. Once construction done spray latex for skin and then airbrush in details. Any suggestions once I get started most appreciated will post pics along way to show progress. Just wanted to say thanks for this site and all the help I have picked up on it checking out your stuff!!! Should be constructing soon w/ pics.:)

If i were you i would start off with drywall stilts. Then maybe aluminum frame braces for the arms with a cabling system for the fingers. I would just love to see a nice hulk build. The trouble with the hulk is making a build from a animated character. If i was to try it, i would want a team of individuals who could assist in the build. I love the hulk, and every hulk build that someone creates i just have to watch. I wish you the best of luck on this one...GM

Sounds like a lot of fun, and an insane amount of work! Mikefu's costume is definitely good reference, and youtube has some incredible footage of some of the hollywoods monster makers builds and wip. here's a good video for thoughts on the head and neck to give you more height. Obviously be careful about the proportion. lol

Also if you can find on youtube or on his webpage Pete Mander(goes by pmander on youtube) He has done some of the most amazing costumes that I've seen.
Hope the planning is going well, make sure to take TONS of photos of the wip, super excited.

I've been checking out your carnage pics and your muscle suit is what I want to build like but on of course at larger scale for hulk I like the way your chest and muscles are separated looks like backer rod. I'm thinking like that kind of layout and then placing 1/8" foam over the top to make look more like skin and then latexing over that what do u think? like I said earlier any help I much appreciated should be starting on suit in couple of weeks when this snow wants to quit so basically just been doing sketching and getting supplies foam, glue etc. thanks again for hulk pics looked pretty cool!!!

thanks
thats a great way to do skin..there are several ways to do it and some give you super smooth or rough depends on what kind of hulk you want
another option would be to wrap your muscle(s) , groups etc in women stocking type of material stretch it over and smooth the texture. . while you do your sketches and planning try a couple small sample pieces , experimenting to find the right fit.
good luck looking forward to seeing its development .

cheers

Hey,

I kinda did a speed build on my Hulk project as I needed it done by a deadline. I used stools as a base for each foot and I see out of the mouth of my hulk. I used a lot of foam yoga mats, foam cushions and duct tape in sections and then coated in plasti dip and latex. Used cut up $3.00 basketballs from five below for shoulders. My symmetry is way off right now, calves are too thick too.so I am going to split the torso down the center, add width across the top, bulk it up a lot with foam, widen the shoulders and slope them down some. It will then be too wide to be able to use the arms so might try to rig up some type of pulley system for arms, etc. pic attached.

Here is another picture showing where wearer's head sits. Not me in the pic. Another pic of original attempt at shoulders. I later moved them outward.

As you can see, I used various store bought portions to save time and built around them. Duct taping over the cut foam portions worked great and was secure. coating those portions with latex and plastidip has held up thus far and that was over a year ago.

sorry guys I haven't posted any updates in a while but I have started hulk build basically started upper body with basic muscle shapes and now starting the legs. Feet are built on 4 1/2"risers to some slip on sneakers and started a rude basic build up for feet when I get a chance I 'll post some pictures of progress so far. Just about have my base pieces cut out o cement to suit and then start building the actual muscles to suit and I decided for skin 1/8 foam over entire suit.

update body hands and feet construction completed waiting on warmer weather for applying latex and paint so working on clay sculpt of head till able to start applying maybe tomorrow let me know what you think kids school party oct.18th 092.jpg116.jpg118.jpg119.jpg122.jpg124.jpg

the 1/8 foam worked great lot of spray adhesive 7-8 cans so far hands r little longer til I get to final fitting and then I can trim down if needed

costume finished silicone mask I made tore had to use a old marvel mask as backup repainted to match suit I think kids liked it was a challenge overall first time I built entire muscle suit but if I have to again think I could build a better one

finished costume silicone mas k torn so had to use old marvel mask repainted to match suit color I think it was a better fit anyway. think kids had a good time yesterday
