Imperial Waterproofs

Nice to see some imperial waterproof gear. Has anyone got any better pictures, or further pictures of these please?

The 'black' one looks more poncho like with the front converted into a sort of tabard. The grey/green is pretty much a greatcoat with a sort of 'action flap' half cape to the rear. It *may* have had pockets when I saw it at the cinema.

I think the black "ponchos" are the same exact rain garment Krennic wears throughout the movie, just with a shorter cape (and green/black, obviously)

I'm definitely looking forward to the trench coat being IDed or replicated in the future!

There may be slight differences; I think I need to see more photos to be sure, but yes, it does rather look like the shorter raincape he wears.

The raincoats the officers are wearing appear to be slightly simplified Kradmantels or WW2 German 'motorcyclist' coats. Thanks to the IOC for that.

From seeing the film three times now, Krennic's version is the same in front, but has extra panels sewn on in back to give it the length he obviously prefers, and to set himself apart. Prat. I need even one good shot from the back of the black version before I commit. I think they used a simple round capelet sewn into that shoulder yoke. The front edges come down to not quite crotch length, the amgle from those to the bottom edge is a right angle, and the bottom edge angles down and around to the back. What I can't see is whether it is a straight angle, ending in a shallow point at center-back, or a curved edge, going down and coming back up at the other side.

I've pretty much got the yoke patterned, I've noted the shoulder inset where the cape attaches, the number of topstitched lines on the collar, the gap to the uniform collar underneath, the cape bottom and front edge hems... All I need to know is that damned bottom edge. :p

Been really digging into this the past week. Per this picture, posted above:

...there's a front panel on the poncho, too. I hadn't realized that's what that was. I thought it was just the yoke and cape. Which means Krennic wasn't wearing some alternate uniform jacket in the opening shot on Lah'mu -- that was the front panel of his foul-weather cape. Code cylinder pocket to the right side, long pocket just below and parallel to the bottom edge of the yoke taking up the entire left half. This means the seam on the yoke does not actually open -- just probably the collar and the short bit along the shoulder seam, and then pulled over the head.

Further, on the Stormtrooper officers, the way the cape is sewn into the yoke is different -- rounded transition from one to the other, rather than set in as on Krennic's. And it looks like the front panel comes down to a bit below the jacket hem, and about in line with the bottom of the front edge of the cape (roughly in line with the wrists with the arms at the sides).

The work continues...

Ordered a Swiss version of the motorcycle coat off eBay. Should be able to use this as a pattern with a little bit of modification.

Look forward to see what you come up with. Very interested in an imperial officers rain cape!

Thank you! My local Best Buy and Target sold out of their super-special-awesome editions in far less than a day, so I had to resort to the internets and it hasn't arrived yet. I've been aching to see what I could get -- especially of the Stormtrooper officers' backs as they re-boarded the shuttle on Eadu.

Okay, so, two things... How are you coming with mastering a pattern off that overcoat? And second, thanks to all these wonderful screen grabs I've made massive progress on my patterns for both Krennic's and the Stormtrooper Officers' versions of the waterproofs. Might you be up for a swap when we're finished? ;) Tuesday I'm going to be getting fabric for the final version of my waterproof, and I'm planning to order sufficient yardage of wool coating fabric once I know from your pattern how much I'll need.

The only thing that bugs me here is the uniform underneath -- it's not accurate to the ANH version, but is to the ROTJ version, and I'm having a hard time coming up with a rationalization I remotely like. :angry

There's someone on Etsy doing a good olive greatcoat, and another on Etsy who's done a bang-up job of mastering the standard black poncho, as well as Krennic's version. She's busy gearing up for Dragon Con right now, but she's also working on the new coats in Solo. I'll dig up links tomorrow.

how much fabric did you end up using for a poncho? i decided to try to make one and am looking at making my own patterns... any good ones out there? thanks!
