While scouring a certain online auction site, I stumbled across these items, which looked to me like the Imperial Rank bars, as seen in this photo from the force.net.

Obviously, the blue one more than the green one...

I don't know if these items have been ID'ed before-- anyone got any ideas or inside knowledge?

    Let's share. :love

You are correct. They are light covers for push button switches.

I heard that they would have been from a television switchboard/mixer console. The same console would have been used in the Death Star superlaser ignition scenes.

For replicas, most people get EAO series 01 covers.

Bump! Want to assembly rank bars to display my imperial cylinder codes, the ones Chris Trevas was selling, any news on this covers? I mean, screen used ones were identified so far?:$

PS: The red one and yellow one matches the side groves style:

18x24mm ones look a little large to me.If you scale the badges on General Veers they come out more to 10x18mm with a 25mm aluminium backplate.

Will try to estimate the dimensions and will post back. Weird that everyone is using those ones If they are not screen accurate to create replicas. If you know what I mean.:$

    Here's a quick sizing comparison

That's with the bars being 25mm and the switch covers around 19mm(3/4") high and looks about right taking into account the small difference in distance from the camera between the head and chest.
If the covers were 24mm high his head would be 312mm tall and his eyes would be 87mm apart. That size would also make the imperial belts 3" instead of 2".

    I'd estimate that the covers should be 19mm x13mm... ish or 3/4" x 1/2"

If anyone has the real dosimeters/code cylinders that would also make a good size comparison.

Sorry for be late. I know I promised this weeks ago. The top diameter from the real dosimenter is 16mm. So, with this in mind and using this photo:

    http://www.theforce.net/swtc/Pix/Xsydney/costumes/Pc220038.jpg

You can re-calculate the covers size. I had a 18x24mm one on my hands today, red one, and they really look dead on. Hope this helps.

If the blue top is 16mm then 18x24mm is correct,if the main silver body is 16mm then they come out to 12.5 x 16.9mm.

Same proportions for both so they'll look correct regardless of the scale.

    I agree 18mm x 24mm is too big.
The silver body of the dosimeter is .6 inches (15.24mm).
They are clearly not as wide as a dosimeter.

Yes, the silver cylinder is about 16mm, I took the measurement with my caliper. Could be 15.97mm cause I did not remove the protective bag:unsure. So, EAO switches are just a good replacement, but not the found item.:cry

    Actually they might be right.
    The website says:
"Bezel styles are rectangular 18 × 24 mm"
That's the size of the bezel which is the black frame around the colored lens cover.
So I bet the lens covers are the right size. Either that or there are smaller ones somewhere because they are definitely lens covers.

Anyone have actual lens covers to measure?

PS - The Rebel badges are made from the round ones.

I had 3 red of them packaged in a small plactic bag yesterday. Since I did not have my caliper at that time, was not able to measure them. They seem right at first glance, but who knows. A blueprint from AEO could be useful too. Will look for them.

My estimations are very close to yours. 12.4x16.8mm. Still looking for a decent blueprint from the lenses. I pretty much guess that Chris did that the rectangle lens holder is 18x24mm, not the lens itself.:unsure

Temponaut posted a pic of his collection in my for sale thread.
These are badges made by Vince.
The rectangles appear to be too big.

    Here 'tis.
Covers are 24x30.5mm, give or take a tenth of a mm.
I believe Vince's earlier efforts used larger covers.

Well, considering our estimation they are too big. Even the aluminum bases should be smaller than that. I saw a screen capture where the base was rounded and had a small rivet in each corner.:unsure

Wasn't that for Admiral Ozzel only in the special edition version?

I think that EAO series 01 switch covers are about 12×19 mm. (I have only white inserts left to measure). I believe that Vince/CE uses those same switch covers.
I once scaled pics and estimated that the screen-used switches are about as wide, but not as high.

I once mistakenly bought EAO series 31 switch covers. The switch itself has the same outer dimensions as the series 01, but the switch covers are larger! (15×22 mm if I recall correctly)

Btw. for Rebel rank badges, you can use either series 31 or series 01, but not mix the two on the same badge. One of them is half a millimeter smaller, and the hue and surface texture is slightly different. :confused

Original version also. Piett used the same badge after he had become Admiral.

The style of the metal plaque and the colors and numbers of the pips are so different from character to character, even with the same rank according to the dialogue, that when you take a comission to make a badge for someone, you have to ask them which character's badge they want.

I don't recall from where I got the special edition reference...:confused

So to summarize, no one has yet nailed the exact dimensions?

Those tiny pins/rivets in the rounded corners are on a couple other ESB badges too, but not all of them. Spacing varies a little too.

Captain Lennox here has the rivets and his badge is wider than others on the sides.

For some reason ROTJ badges were all captain's rank.

I have read the actual datasheet for EAO series 61, mentioned earlier. The 18×24 mm button has lenses that are 15.3 × 21.5 mm large.
They are a little bit too large, yes. I agree with others here that the size of the real lens cover would be close to 12.5 × 17 mm.

Btw, If someone finds square lenses that are 1/2" × 1/2", please let me know also! There are uses for those as well. Thanks!

Wow, that's half the size of my CE ones. I have no problem with my badge being wrong, but they don't "seem" twice as big as they should be. I previously had made a badge myself using smaller covers, and it just didn't look right.

("seem" is about as mathematically precise as I'm going to get in this thread :lol)

I recently bought some of these switch covers from RS Components for another prop (not SW), so I have them right in front of me.

They have black bezels measuring 18x24mm. The coloured tops are 12x19mm. They have the little groove on the long sides.

    Is that any help?

The white piece is an insert to diffuse the light if you want your switch illuminated, but it's optional.

Well, if you compare them with this:
    http://www.theforce.net/swtc/Pix/Xsydney/costumes/Pc220038.jpg

They are so damm dead on, in color, shape and size that I am really tempted to buy a bunch of them. You can clearly see in the photo that the left the white lens holder. So, we are able to say that the model is EAO 01-901 and the last number represents the color: red 2, yellow 4 and blue 6. Those are great news. Thanks a lot.

The ones in ANH appear to have faint pale lines behind them, almost like the LED bars.

Hmm... don't know. It seems to be regular in all the ANH ones. Same pattern. But in the exhibition ones just looks like a couple of blobs.
