So far, my wife has asked me twice and my mom has asked me 3 times.... "Is that you?". So, I think it is time to start photoshopping our quint's onto our new ride. flimzy I share pics of your project more than I do mine so my family keeps expecting I am on the boat. But they live the life of being related to a costumer so they are likely suffering from some yet to be named codependency syndrome...... hahaha hahahaI thought that it was greenmachines in his Quint cosplay![]()
There is a guy on Instagram that does action figure stop motion https://www.instagram.com/justin_rasch_official/This is a private video just for here. These are the shots I’d like to get. Ignore the timing and music as some shots will be longer and some shorter and I’m not sure about the music yet. I might get help with that.
Now I just feel naked. I think my big boy pants are around here somewhere..... Only on therpf would I even get to leave a comment on a project of this talent level. Just gonna say thank you for letting us sit on this ride. If anyone says you gotta be this tall to ride this ride, I am pretty sure I am not that tall. This is a private video just for here. I remember earlier mention of the break away is already planned but now can't find the post. I also saw brody shooting the shark in the compilation vid above but it was quick so you may have missed it.Wow. This is serious.
- My first thought is to worry about the logistics of the water shooting. Anchoring the boat in one place/angle.
- And pulling stuff through the water. Half-scale barrels at speed is real force. They may not stay half-submerged without some kind of weight rig to hold them down. And the speed in the movie was pretty fast. Are you going to be filming the barrels from another parked boat, zoomed in from a distance? The barrels will pass by quickly.
- You may need a rig for the shark to make it move like you want. It will want to either float or sink. The hard part is holding it level just under the surface.
- I agree on shooting dry-for-wet with Hooper's cage.
- The day-for-night scenes are not very convincing in the real movie, but for this video it's part of the charm. I agree to do it.
- I know CGI conflicts with the spirit of this project. But I think it's acceptable for minor issues that aren't the focus of the craftsmanship. Like, for the shots on the water, I might use CGI to get rid of other boats or shoreline in the background. And day-for-night is an optical effect, which means it's a digital effect now anyway. And you're gonna want that shooting star behind Brody, right?
-- This is increasing the project, but . . . Imagine the possibilities if you built some "stunt Orca" sections:
You could build a rear section of the Orca, with a break-away transom for the shark landing on it. Just build the rear 1/3rd of the boat and crop out the rest of it. The shark landing on the boat is such an iconic "money shot". Everybody remembers it.
This rear section would also give you more possibilities for shooting Quint's death. It could be sort of a "raft" with floaties under it. You could film it half-sunk in the water at an angle. (I doubt you want your good Orca to be sitting half-sunk in the water like that.) Just keep the camera pointed towards the back of the Orca and crop out the (missing) front 2/3rds of it.
- Do at least a shot of Brody shooting at the shark. It's another really iconic bit, and it's mostly just Brody on the mast. Maybe you could take the mast off the main model and just put that in the water by itself. Or you could mock up another copy of the mast. Use CGI to give the rifle a muzzle flash. Etc.
I know I am suggesting a lot more work. But I think it would really add to the final result. It would make it more of an action film reel, and that seems to be what you are going for.
Dear Batguy
Please stop posting on my thread. I know you probably don’t know you doing it. I bet you do it to everyone. But your the shear definition of a mansplainer.
Of course I know how hard things will be, you don’t for one second think I’ve thought about what is achievable?
I’ve been in the film industry for 35 years. I’m a senior Art director, senior SFX and I’ve been a miniature effect director, you think I don’t have any idea how to do things without one of the men telling me how.
Should I have told Christopher Nolan “ I know you want the hotel to spin around but that will be too hard”.
I’ve picked the shots that are achievable with what I have available with the budget I have. I’m coming from an easy place, because I can pick shot I know how to do,
Your tone always come across as preaching,
I’ve looked your threads up to see what a great expert I’m be advised by but so far you’ve avoided posting any pictures of your own work,
It’s easy to talk the talk but show us you walk the walks first before tell me what I should do.
Unfortunately I don’t have the space to take photos with the sun in any other direction at the moment, but when I take it out in the wild I can match your photos if you need it. I tried to set the focus where you would be standing. I need to do film test at some point as I’m undecided weather to do the main shoot with anamorphic lens or stick with spherical.Having the open deck shots (no crew) available for photo mashups has really brought to my attention my low quality Quint pose pics. My usual quick and easy paste-in is turning into a brand new mod theme of trying to get the two pics to the same quality first and then changing the lighting. I may very well be redoing my poses just to get some higher res..... me.
I have a sneaky suspicion that we used phone cameras for Quint. But I am still digging through pose photos in hopes of captaining soon. If I ever learned anything from Quint it was to never give up, even if you're waste deep in shark.
Yep printed them I think I put some in your package not sure now. You’ll like new Bruce, there’s a hand puppet version.I was just looking at all the details again. Did you machine or print the bat and fishing rod clamps? They look so perfect with Quint standing over them. The Cabin smoke effect will be outstanding. All the pieces are coming together. You should take a fun pic of the 3 figures inside the shark jaws. recreate the iconic photo.
