"IF" Robert Downey Jr. retires as Iron Man, what "COULD" Marvel/Disney do to replace/

Re: "IF" Robert Downey Jr. retires as Iron Man, what "COULD" Marvel/Disney do to repl

They wouldn't reboot it, Tony Stark is involved with the Avengers and the Marvel shared universe, you can't continue one story and completely restart another and still try to keep it understandable. Its not like Marvel would say "Hey you there, our first giant success into a gigantic shared universe, our hugely loved character & fan favorite, you're done. Bye."

Oh, and I found this: IRON MAN 3 PRESS JUNKET: Robert Downey Jr. on Negotiations for IM4, 5 & 6 Don't actors usually keep quiet once they've started negotiations? The talks of Avengers sequels is out there because they're already inked in, so the company can talk about what's happening. If he and Iron Man sequels are in negotiations, the company will keep quiet, which means its already being worked out. If he was done with the role, he woulda said "well I hope for more" but just kept mum about it. Jus my thought on the matter

EW's coverage on Marvel's next slate of films mentioned that RDJ on Avengers 2 seems like a done deal. I would think if they got him to re-up for A2, it'd be a multi-picture deal.

Probably be cheaper then paying a small fortune for every film. Especially if the im3 success carries on to surpass the avengers. The guys a gold mine. Im interesed in seing the figures from the dark world. To see if the majority can be said to come from the back of the avengers. Or if RDJ is a money machine. I imagine it would do well regardless now the stories are interlinked. People want to know all the lead up. But how many will go spending on cinema tickets straight away rather then just 'go and see it at some point' weel see. Plus hes likley to accept IF he doesnt want a break. Its not like any new films just going to come along with a budget willing to match the acengers fee.
Unless he's just happy being as rich as he already is.

IM3 had a retro-60's-Bond picture vibe running all through it, especially those end credits - so much so I wasn't at all surprised to see that "Tony Stark will return" tag.

I'd wager that Downey is good for two more IM pictures, in addition to A2 (and 3?) - provided they keep giving him material that sustains his interest.

As for when, inevitably, the part HAS to be recast, odds are it'll be some new talent that's still in high school right now...
