Just found this kit lurking in the back of my closet! 30 years old (almost).
After seeing photos on the 'prop store' auction (attached photos), it motivated me to pull out and correct this kit.
The kit is good, but certianly needs lots of improvements. I did what i could without going crazy.

Based on photos of the 2 foot filming miniature, i did the following improvements:

1. Sanded and filled gap through the entire perimeter. The textured surface was reapplied using white glue. The glue was painted on then ‘lifted’ with the pad of my finger. Looks very similar to what is on the kit! Texture is clear, so not visible in photo.
-Rescribed panel lines and continued to the edge.

2. Drilled new holes for a secondary laser cannon that was molded and cast from the one in the kit.

3. Reshaped rear of body edges.

4. Reshaped front window, and made new window frames in correct locations.

5. Cannon added from ‘spares’ box.

6. Added ‘tentacle’ like shapes around perimeter of ‘head’ where it attaches to body. Done using Aves epoxy sculpt.

7. Widened ‘head’ with .060” shim.

8. added small bumps around cannon with filler.

9. Added ‘sabre toothed cat teeth’ to the front. Sculpted from Aves epoxy sculp.

10. Narrowed the ‘trench’ by 4mm on each side with Aves epoxy sculp.

I think it is now ready for painting........

Its the Lindberg kit. about 10.5" X 10.5".

Looking at the Prop store photos, I think that the entire model was covered in a'wrinkly' aluminum foil. Then the modeller used a dark dirty blue paint that was rubbed in. The recessed areas are a dark rust brown. if anyone has other info on how they finished the model please post!

So, therefore I plan on painting it aluminum, then a dark dirty blue that is buffed, rubbed etc. etc. to match the photos.. guess i'll deal with the rusty brown afterwards...

Just saw this on Heritage Auctions:

OBVIOUSLY the Lindberg kit is directly based on this Maquette -its even the exact same size....(Not the screen used large models). I'm altering my kit to look like the screen use ones!

mmmh ... that small maquette wasnt made for close up shots and therefore doesnt finished and detailed in high quality.

I would prefer yours at any time! You did an outstanding job with your finishing and painting work.

Based on the above photos of the 2 foot filming miniature, here is my first attempt at the finish.
The model was sprayed with aluminum paint, then washed with a charcoal black and buffed.
To start, the 'head' or 'crown' piece is painted by hand with dark green and dark blue vein-like blotches -then buffed. So far, I am happy and will continue this technique on the whole model. Then I will streak the entire model with medium grey pastels to simulate the weathering.

Finally finished this model................. 7 layers of hand-painted effects. The front 'window' is 3 coats of gloss black. I am very happy with the final result.

Nice. Always liked the looked of these ships, as it was very different from the typical alien spaceship.
I also liked the city destroyers, as they kept the classic saucer type look, but in a cool and huge way.
