Icons Replicas

Weird...I have all 3 ICONS lightsabers. They were the first props I ever had. I'm the original owner and I've had them since they came out, oh...back around the first Star Wars Celebration, right?

I live in Ohio...humidity is a way of life here (they call this the "rust belt" dont they?). Not one of my ICONS sabers has a speck of rust on it.

They also made 10 gold plated ones that are very cool
also there is one rotj prototype that a private collector has .

I love hearing about the Tri-Barrel from MIB they were supposed to release.

The one they had pictured in the catalog was the original
from the movie , I have only heard of one that they made
never been seen or pictured . Maybe jim has it in his private stash?

Do we have a thread for ICONS replicas show-off?
I only have one of thier Loki Mask replicas but I'm still pretty proud to be part of the 'legend' so to speak. They were the first....

I saw it (the 3 barrel rifle) sold on eBay in 2006 or 2007...I don't remember if it was the master or a casting...Now part of a private collector certainly !!!

I've got a stunt casting that's black and made for some type of rubber and filled with hard foam.

What did this one look like?

I've never even seen any pictures aside from a promo of the Tri with a green background.

I think it was a very light-brown color and not in pretty good shape...missing some pieces.....not sure.

Hi All,

I just found this thread and it looks like no one has been on it for the past 2 1/2 years. I hope this posting gets read.

I am very interested in the plaques or nameplates that Icons had with their replicas. I'm looking for any of the Star Trek plaques. Can anyone help? Any info would help.

I'm also very interested in the Klingon Disruptor Replicas, especially the 3fer (3 Klingon Disruptor Display). Does anyone have any information on it. I’d like to gte some good pictures of the props and the nameplates. What I find on the Internet isn't of good definition.

Thanks

I found a site a while back that listed the size of the edition runs. It said the only run they finished was the Luke ANH saber which they made 10,000 of. I don't know if the info was accurate or not. If I can find the site again I will let you know. I still have my Luke saber from Icons although it may be traded away soon.

I just remembered it was at Rebelscum that I saw some info on Icons...

Rebelscum.com: Icons Photo Archive

Even though it said 10,000 pieces, I have heard many times that not all of them ever made their way to collectors. (Being sold)

This is hearsay so take this for what it is worth. :)

Dear all, I posted the below recently in the hope of stirring up a discussion which may have lead to answers to questions I have regarding Icons & a US based dealer called Toyhawks. Other Icons collectors over the years have suggested to myself that Jim Latta and Steve Morton may be one and the same person? If this is the case then he has screwed me out of two Cylon helmets. One at its original retail price of $500 and one at the after market price of $1500. Funny enough there is a prototype Icons Cylon helmet on Yourprops & I can't help thinking that this could be the one I have patiently been waiting 9 years for? I emailed Mr Latta on the email address he posted on this very forum a couple of years ago but have received no reply hence myself finally and reluctantly going public with this. If any fellow replica prop collectors know the current location of either gentlemen? I'd very much appreciate a heads up. Thank you.
As a new member first let me apologise if I have selected the wrong thread to post? Like a number of other prop collectors I was one of those who paid Icons in full for pre-orders of the Han Solo Blaster and Battlestar Galactica Cylon helmet (thank you Al Williams) I therefore found it interesting to note that in a previous post Mr Latta had stated no advance orders on Battlestar Galactica props had been taken. I still have my paid in full invoice which I will post as proof. Suffice to say I lost my money when Icons folded...Bugger!
Skip forward to 2006 & I was fortunate enough, I thought, to come across an ebay seller Steve Morton of Toyhawks who appeared to be brokering major pieces from Mr Latta's private Icons collection (this may be pure BS on Toyhawks part?). The first item I secured 9 years ago was the prototype Sonar Batcowl. It was a bitch to get Toyhawks to actually ship it and when they did it was shipped without its display case & prototype plaque & supporting documentation. In the mean time I had also paid Toyhawks for the prototype ID4 Alien Attacker and supporting documentation and the number 2 prototype Cylon helmet plus numerous other pieces such as the master build manual for the Icons M41-a hero Aliens Pulse Rifle. Despite numerous assurances from Mr Steve Morton none of these pieces were ever sent. He tends to reply to my emails roughly every 6 months to the effect of "this will happen, we are still here, your pieces are safe" but he never answers simple questions such as "why the hell do you find it so difficult to ship my purchases?". I must be some serious kind of idiot to get ripped off on two Icons Cylon helmets? I think the chances after 9 years of Mr Morton honouring his dept is pretty much zero so I'm taking this to the prop community in the hope my story stops Toyhawks obtaining monies by deception from any other trusting/seriously gullible prop collectors. Thank you Guys

Yes, Jim Latta used the name Steve and "Toyhawks" on eBay before they shut him down. Then he used my account ("LolaToParis") for a year. My bad. Like many others, I was ripped off royally - almost $10k, mostly from loans I took out to help him pay his $3k/month storage rents. (His claim that he lost everything when Icons folded was a total lie. He and Donna Johnson had huge, multiple storage rooms in Hawaiian Gardens.)

Also, he was indeed the psycho culprit of the Frank Frazetta family debacle, shortly before Frank passed on. I truly believe that the stress James Latta put the Frazettas under caused Frank's demise. I've fortunately had the opportunity to apologize to the Frazettas on behalf of my family. So awful.

Should anyone here encounter him, I can't suggest highly enough that you run, don't walk, as far from him as you can. He is a grifter with a capital G. He ripped off a woman in her 80s to start his first company ($350k, never prosecuted). You should've seen the huge and fictitious IMDB page he set up for himself. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. It's since been corrected. ;) #Peace

Is that you Lady L?

If so I hope you and yours are well!

Hi Apollo! Yes, 'tis moi. Thank you, I hope you've been well also. I'm STILL recuperating from the damage Jim caused me, but each day is a little easier. I'm a firm believer in karma, so I know things will work out as they should.

There used to be a Yahoo support group for Icons Replicas survivors. That ******* Jim Latta stole 8 grand from me for a B-9 back in the day. The only thing I have to show for it is a signed Robert Kinoshita blueprint.

I also purchased an Icons Luke ANH lightsaber which I actually received. I just recently removed the saber from its original sealed box, and now it's displayed on a bookshelf. However, I'll most likely sell it because of the associated bad memories.

Ah, Icons... My first taste of being ripped off by a replica prop company...

I preordered an MIB neuralyzer way back when. I was ~14 and spent months saving up the ~$350 dollars to buy one. I remember repeatedly talking on the phone with them about how close they were to releasing it... How they'd offer me a discount on other preorders to make up for the delays...

In the end, never saw my money or the prop. I learned a lot from that experience.

The good news is that lead me to the RPF, so it wasn't all bad.

Sean
