I wanna get an X1 Wolverine Jacket

Hey guys, so I'll admit I neglected to use the search function, but more so, because I wanted you guys to respond to a question if you don't mind.

I've been looking at both the "expensive" and "cheap" sides of this jacket.

Would you guys mind giving me some reputable sellers for the X1 style Wolverine Jacket?

I'm really looking to buy it, but am trying to get the closest I can get to screen accurate, while still achieving that common budget ground...

Am I setting the bar too high for myself?

I really would like to get the jacket, but I want to get it from the right people, but who are the "right people"?

According to what I've read at filmjackets.com, thats the one to get. I've got one from Davidyr1 right now, but am looking to get one from Loganscloset sometime this year.
If you do want to keep a budget, I'd try to get one of David's jackets- in my opinion, it looks very accurate. The waist stripes look off to me on everything but the Vanson from Logan's closet and Davids. His jackets are also a very thick leather like the film version, and you won't pay a whole lot, got mine for less than half of what the Vansons go for. Wested also makes them, but really I don't think they have the "look." They use a softer leather. David no longer makes these, but you still may be able to find one. And then there are the ones on ebay, just about everything is wrong on these.

Hey Darthmaddy, if you end up getting the one from loganscloset, I'd be willing to pick up the one from Davidyr1 if it was my size :)

Thanks for the info guys, I'm definitely leaning more towards the 200-300$ budget.

I definitely think you should give the Davidyr1 jackets a look. The sale on the jackets that David has going definitely falls into your budget and that is going to be buying you a lot of quality. Some may argue it isn't as 100% accurate as Vanson, but if you read around they can be tricksome to deal with and even buying form them isn't always a 100% accuracy guarantee.

I dearly love my jackets from David. I own two of the X1 style. I've worn them most of the year and get comments on them from people who recognize the jacket from the film and from folks who just like the style of the jacket.

The only caution I have is the sizing seems to run a bit small. Before you order your jacket make sure you look at the sizing chart David supplies and get the correct size based on those measurements. In fact you might actually want to get one size up to ensure proper fit.

I have a Vanson X1 jacket, which I was FINALLY able to wear this last weekend, due to extreme cold in Miami.

This jacket, while costing an arm and a leg, is amazing. I decided to take it for a spin, and I got people turning heads as soon I stepped out of the garage building, at South Beach. I walked inside Starbucks, and the same thing happened. Got some coffee and walked into the street. I kept turning heads left and right. This Vanson Jacket will make you look like you just stepped out from the MTV music awards. It really separates true American leather craft from generic made-in-China off-the-rack jackets.

It's a leather sculpture that you can wear. It keeps the cold away without heating you up. I wanted to age it, but I will just leave it new, as is. Let nature do its job.

The negatives:

-The price. You can kiss 1 month's rent good bye.

-The leather is very thick. It will take a long while to break into the jacket. I was talking on my cellphone with my elbow bent. When I relaxed my arm, this unbearable, splitting pain came out of my elbow. The sleeve had, actually, crushed my elbow inside out.

-This jacket is a real biker jacket, so it is designed to accommodate a sitting-down/arms-stretched-out position. This might give some neck discomfort when standing up.

If you order a size bigger, the jacket will look boxy on you.

-Finally, the waiting time: 3 to 6 months. I waited 3 years because they made the wrong order, and I kept procrastinating starting over, since the replacement jacket would be finished by the time winter was over.

So, bottom line: The negatives can be overcome, and the positives point the Vanson/Logan's closet jacket to be the best choice. If you don't have enough, save. I started saving for this jacket in 2002, and placed my order in 2005. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Alright,

I'm thinking I might wanna go ahead and get a Davidyr1 for the short term, but later get the vanson.

Any chance someone can link me to the David and Vanson ones please?

David's sizing for his stuff is a little different. I thought I'd wear a 42 or 44, and got a 44 the first time around and it was too tight. I settled with a 46, but am curious to how a 48 would fit. He was out of them when I got it. I'd get it a size or two bigger than you think. Don't expect to wear a denim jacket under it unless you order at least several sizes larger.

Yep. I've got a 42" chest but measured to fit more a 44" because of the width of my shoulders. But I ordered a 46" so it would be a little larger. It fits me very well, but is not roomy enough that things can really be layered under it and look and feel properly.

So I ordered a 48 and it is nice and roomy with a good fit but plenty of room to layer. I suspect you would love the fit of a size 48.

I wear the size 48 in winter with a wool field jacket acting like a liner. That all still fits easily over a t-shirt, sweater, layered shirts, whatever I wear under it. I wear the size 46 during warmer weather over just a shirt/t-shirt.

I sent David an email, now I wait.

I generally wear a size large, how should I measure myself for the jacket?

David supplies a chart when ordering. You need to take your measurements based on the chart and then order accordingly. You will need a measuring tape and maybe someone to help you take the measurements(much more accurate that way).

hello there

trust me as i've been through this....
just buy a vanson.

it will cost more, and take longer to get, but you will buy one evetually and then you will have the David jacket that you will not be able to sell, so you will actually end up paying more in the end.

i had a wested for a year and sold it to finance my vanson
(which i was sceptical about buying)

i paid $330 for my wested total and sold it for $200 you do the math.

im not saying that the davidr jacket is not a nice jacket, but your post said you wanted a screen accurate jacket. i said the samething when i got my wested "well its not exact, but its close enough."

it wasnt...and it started to bother me, and the same will happen to you.

now go over to www.filmjackets.com/forum

and research the X1 posts, and drop dan from www.Loganscloset.com
a line at his site or PM him at filmjackets.com
i think you only need half down on your vanson order and you can pay the other half when the jacket is completed in roughly 3-4 months

i used to feel your pain, but as i sit here wearing my vanson typing this just DO IT.

done and done.

I suspect any Wolverine jacket will sell well in the month before and after the new movie release... Which hopefully will mostly fund a Vanson.:lol
I really love my jacket by David, and wish he had more in a bigger size, but think he's through with them. I think he got the main aspects of the jacket right, the burly YKK zippers, thick leather, and stripe color are the biggest parts of it, and don't think the Wested or ebay jackets really captured it.
Oh yeah, when measuring for his jackets, use the chart to see how big you want it on you, not by your actual body measurements.

DavidYR1's are measured on the outside of the jacket, that's why the sizes are wonky. Basically figure on ordering the number 4 sizes up from your normal jacket size. I wear a 44 and would take a 50 in his normally, but the arm/torso proportions are still a little funky for me.

I may be a little biased towards my Vansons, but if you want screen accurate and a perfect fit, I'll be happy to help you out. :)

Oh yes, hopefully you'll be helping me out sometime this year. I've become really nuts about the X1 jacket. I get a lot of compliments on my current one, definitely an eye catching design. I don't see why they keep changing the design every movie, I think it gets worse every time.

Everything H8ter18 said is true. I ended up getting the latest X1 from Dan and it is perfect. Thanks to the fellas on the filmjackets board though, I didn't have to go (very far) down the money sucking path of buying other Wolverine jackets first. I bought one second hand Vanson for an event, sold it afterwards, regretted it the next day, and ordered a new one the day after that.

I was going to weather my Vanson, but that would be like taking a brillo pad to a Picasso, I'm going to let it break in naturally instead.

Seriously, just save up if you can for as long as it takes and get a Vanson.

i've seen alot of vansons from the 60s-70s on ebay that still have alot of life left to them. on their site (which is of coure biased) they call their jackets "heirloum quality" (spelling?)
