I need some info on this Vader helmet please

I purchased this helmet a couple of years ago. I recently took it out and noticed the way the lower part was pushed to one side. I didn't notice it when I saw the spics when I bought it. I know that the mask is not supposed to be symmetrical but should it look like it does? I'm also not sure what mask and helmet it is. I never asked. But I know a little more about Vader now and would like to know where the parts came from.

I know the pics aren't that great but I'm no photographer.

Of course, thanks to Wackychimp for hosting!

EDIT: I don't know why the pics aren't showing up. I usually don't post pics. Thought I did it right but it doesn't seem to be working.

It looks like a recast of the Don post. Costume junkie put one out that looks a lot like this. The stripe on the helmet has the same wave as on his version at the point. Good luck

The helmet is definitely derived from a Don Post Deluxe. There are modifications to the neck and to the teeth that are reminescent of a CKing, and perhaps that's what it is.

If you're referring to the jaw on the (viewer's) right and how it seems to droop, yes, that's a feature of the original Don Post Deluxes (be it low number or high number).

The mouth of the original Don Post Deluxe was a bit like that, but if placed on a table, depending on the neck shape, if the mask is sitting clockwise a little too much, it will create the illusion of jaw droop.

This worked but I don't know how to fit the pics to the screen. Thanks anyway.

Doesn't matter though because it looks like it's a DP Deluxe.

Thanks for the replies.

Next question, is it worth the $300 or $350 I paid for it. :confused

One vendor sells a DP Copy in kit form for roughly that much, and the value of a kit depends on how clean a pull is, how well the fiberglass (FG) was laid, etc. Obviously something will air bubbles, pits, bumps, etc. results in more work, though some vendors will do as much cleanup as possible.

I'd need photos of the inside but without flash photography, just to see the inside texture and fiberglass pattern. The shots you have are somewhat dark and difficult to assess. Further, can you post a pic of the inside of the dome, especially the mounting ring? I can check against mine to see if you have a DP copy or an original DP that was simply reworked.

I will try and get some more pics tonight. The pics are dark because I didn't use a flash. I should use some side lighting as well. I can tell you that the mounting ring is a ring with 3 notches to fit over the bumps that are on the helmet ring. It might be a rework though because when the dome is down all the way, it looks to be too high still. At least to me. If you can see from the front shot there looks to be too much of a gap between the eyebrow and the bottom of the dome.

The person is bought it from does boat restorations so he knows how to use fiberglass. I'm no expert but it looks like a pretty good job to me.

If kits are going for what I paid then I guess I got a deal with. The paint job
is flawless as well. I could never had gotten it that good. I'm just not too happy that it's a DP. A nice helmet but I'd like it a little more accurate.

EDIT: Here's the photos of the inside:

You know, you take excellent reference photos of your helmet...all the right angles, etc. :thumbsup All you need is a better camera and a tripod (just for a bit more resolution/sharpness). I agree it is a DP Deluxe copy and the value is about right.

I know from looking at others' photos what angles I'd like to see that they didn't get. Coming from you that's quite the compliment. :thumbsup I was thinking about the tripod but didn't really have enough space behind me to get something to set it on.

Thanks for the verification of the helmet and the value. At least I don't feel like I got ripped off.
