I love Sophisticated Finishes™ for rusting stuff

I just made some signs yesterday for a tradeshow I'm doing and I wanted them to look like old rusted street signs. My good friend Eaton suggested Sophisticated Finishes™ available at Michaels for "rusting" it... This stuff is AWESOME. Super easy to work with and the results are amazing! I made the signs out of that cheap pressed wood paneling stuff.

That is some sweet lookin stuff, the effect only gets better the closer you get to it, its usually the other way around.

How do you apply this stuff?

You just dab the Iron Metallic Surfacer on with a brush. It's kind of a thick paint consistency - as it actually contains iron particles in it. Let that dry. It's very dark gray. Then brush on the rust antiquing solution (very watery) and let that sit for a few minutes and watch it start to literally rust. The solution can be used right on actual metal items as well.

Yea tha stuff is the bee's knees. I use it to weather all sorts of stuff. It also will patina copper and brass.

Really nice work!
I've used some of those Sophisticated Finish products before, but not the rusting kit. It looks amazing!
