Entry 4/23-
1 hour of scouring the store, and $50 dollars later, I'm about 70% finished with a full Indiana Jones costume.
Not really accurate by any means, but pretty DARN GOOD for $50 bucks!

*Update Entry 4/30-
Just about have the faux leather jacket finished... just need to get the bottom edge and reposition the zipper.
Still waiting on the 10' nylon bullwhip. (He's making it to order.. so hopefully I'll have it by the premier)
Need the gas mask bag... anyone have sources? :p Or a pattern? Maybe I'll try making this one too.
Also, something seemed off with my previous fedora, too small... or maybe just the brown ribbon was bugging me. Anyway, I went back to Burlington and grabbed a second hat. Got home and modded it. Thus, a newer... more accurate Indy Fedora! :D

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!!

Good job mate!;)

In the first pic you look like an action figure!:D

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!!

I'm going Friday! Thanks for sharing, looks good.

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!!

looks good, your only problem left , now are the two most expensive items to get though...a decent looking even remotely close to SA whip is 100- most are 200+
same with a jacket(unless you went with and old bargain flight jacket) , depends what you are looking to do...

Imho ya need to get one of the big 5 jacket makers, anything less than that and it doesnt work well(just rip the shirt sleeve and go TOD bridge scene at that point). I got a whip in the Junkyard for sale but it busts the <100- budget ;)

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!!

Actually.... you might find this hard to believe!

I scored a bull whip about 30 minutes ago!
I was bumming around in the house with my current gear on when my room-mate got home.
So he's asking me about it, and I tell him i still need the whip/jacket/gun...etc
and he's like, oh hey... I have a whip!

So.... Now, I have a whip!

**** YEAH! And it's brown, it's a bit tiny compaired to the indy whip... but it's still a brown whip on my side.
So, temporarily, problem solved ;D

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!!

Excellent look mate! You do realize though that like Capn' Jack Sparrow you will be saying to yourself, "Hmmm! That hat looks a little bit more SA! I think I will buy that one too!" I am on my third IJ fedora and bought one from VaderBreath. Akubra Federation and never going back!!

You made leather stuff before as I remember so get to work on that holster, savvy?:lol Alot simpler task than a leather tricorn, baldric, or belt that is for sure!!!

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!!

Ah, perfect! Thanks mate, I know you'd see this thread ;)

I think I'm going to try and find the webley, (my favorite of the guns)
In which case I suppose I'd be making the longer holster. I actually have a large amount of leather to do it as well ^_^
Just need to figure out leather stitching/ staining.

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!!

I just did a simple saddle stitch on the holster. Google "webley holster" and you will get alot of websites with real pics of the holster. I used those pics to base my design.

PM me you got ????s. Head over to Club Obi Wan at IndyGear Dot Com and you will dig yourself into a deeper Indy pit!!!

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!!

If you want something cheap to complete your costume, try Costumebase on Ebay.

They make both leather and pleather holster and holster belts, plus the MKII bag made out of a cheaper canvas. You can certainly pick those up for under $50.00

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!!

Mini update:

I kept the bag... and i'll probably keep using it until I cave for a gas mask bag.
However, I DID switch the straps on it.
I purchased the "FBI 38" that should get here next week,
meanwhile, I used my best judgement in sizing, and went ahead and patterned out a holster, and assembled it. (Obviously still needs staining, etc)
(THANK YOU C_J_S/ you inspired me to go balls out and do it myself. in the meantime I've learned how to sew leather and saved money all in one go!)

Also seen here is my little whip. Gonna see about upgrading tomm...
I also made a temporary 'keeper'. I'm gonna do it out of a thicker leather tomm.
I am thinking I will need to re-shape the hat a bit.. Just need some time and reference pictures first though! :D
(remember that this images are reversed, as taken from my "photobooth" application on my laptop)

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!!

Nice work!!! Now I'm wondering where all the awesome $15.00 fedoras are at my BCF... Not for Indy, but for many "I wanna put a nice 20s style fedora on this guy in this play" standpoint.

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!!

it all depends what you are trying to get to...the outfit looks great as it is, however, the whip and jacket are the hardest to get a decent cheap substitute for. Believe me i tried, and im not trying to dis anyone but cheap indy whips (that look even close to what he used) are in the 200- range...jackets too, i mean you can get a decent looking brown bomber jacket that can fool most people but (anyone that knows indy) would be chuckling.

Are you looking for the cheapest SA indy you can do, or are you trying to get the cheapest close enough?

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!! mini updates!

Well, by no means am I SA at my current state! I doubt I will be either, (SA generally means loads of cash, which I do not have).

So, cheapest-close-enough... but I'm also not set against doing the grunt work myself... hence, making my own holster, making my own straps for the bag, etc...

I have a jacket *cheap*, with a similar fit that I very well may cut up and make a pattern for and just make it from scratch. The jacket is something I would not want to skimp on look-wise since I feel it is so important!
I've found some fake leather material that actually looks quite convincing, and is weatherable... that may just be a matter of time however.

Tomorrow, I'm meeting with a fellow who is an entry level whip maker, he has some older competition bull-whips that he doesn't really use anymore so he's going to let me see if I want to by one off him :D Could be an 80 dollar deal+ modification... We'll see!!

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!! mini updates!

Well, if you want to break down for a great looking jacket that won't set you back too much, consider the standard from Todd's Costumes. It runs $150 and looks dead on. It's a bit thin, but very comfortable. Your costume is looking great! Although I agree that in your first picture you kind of look like an action figure which is really funny and strange. This is a really fun costume to not only put together, but wear because most of it is just real world clothing (as opposed to Darth Vader which literally cooks you from the inside out!). Keep up the great work and keep us posted!

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!! mini updates!

I think I may try my hand at making the jacket...
I can buy material for $40, and I'm confident with my patterning skills. We'll see how it goes :)

Also, I have secured a 10 ft. nylon bullwhip for $130. It'll be custom made for me in the "raiders" fashion!
I'm sooo excited!

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!! mini updates!

I'm confident too with your patterning skills!:D

I'm really curious to see how the jacket turns out, and if you want a leather whip in that price range, contact Gus Caicedo (purewhips)... ;)

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!! mini updates!

Can you post the name brand of the hat (and model number if possible) of the Burlington hat?

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!! mini updates!

It is 100% wool felt by company Harrison. They must be a small maker for BCF. You also have to remember that BCF is a reseller of discontinued brands or older brands that are not in your mainstream stores.

Unfortunately if you Google Harrison and 100% wool felt you get nothing but the Official Indiana Jones hat from Dorfman Pacific. I have not been able to find anything about these hats nor are there any other tags other than the Harrison logo.

Re: I LOVE Burlington Coat Factory!! mini updates!

Do they come in different sizes?
