I just read that Irvin Kershner passed away

Kirshner's commentary on the DVD was fantastic. He kept talking about the actors and how he worked with them to do all the great scenes. Whenever Lucas talked it was about the broader picture or technical stuff.

Thank you mr Kirshner for doing a fine job on ESB. RIP.

Sorry to hear it. Considering most of his other films are nothing special, he really hit it out of the park with ESB.

Very sad news to hear of his passing....it's certainly been a bad day for news like this, having heard about Leslie Nielsen earlier on too

Sad to hear this. His contribution to the production of the Empire Strikes Back was nothing short of mythic. He gave us as much as Lucas did for Star Wars. His work and memory will live on.

Empire is simply a masterpiece and the single best thing about Star Wars, and it's clear much of that was due to his insistence on quality. RIP sir, and thank you.

I got to meet Kersh a few years ago - I had lunch with him and his son when they came through town for a convention - we just sat around and talked movies for an hour or two - it was a great day... He will be missed....

Who are you? I must know you... I was one of the guys that met him at the airport.

Anyway. This is sad news. I too am glad I got to meet and speak with him when I did. A very nice and humble fellow.

:( RIP Mr. Kershner. You sure made one hell of a sequal!

Best director in the Star Wars saga, way better than Lucas the Hutt. RIP Irvin.

What a crappy two days. Hope there isn't a 3rd. :(

I'm one of the few who got to meet him as well. It was at Adventure Con 2007. Thank you Irvin Kershner for your contribution to the Saga!

It's sad to say, yet we're at a point in time where we're probably going to be hearing of more of those who were involved with Star Wars, pass away.

I do not know what is sadder...

The fact that Irvin Kershner died...who directed one of the most iconic Star Wars films. (Which essentially brought a lot of folks here to the RPF)

...or...

The fact that this thread was on page 2 when I found it...overshadowed by threads of GI Joe hair removal and yet another Munson thread.

RIP Irwin.
