Finally finished the Galaxy holder- it's a PITA to make. There are definitely a few things about it I'd change if I was to do it again- the proportions are a bit off, I'd make it a just a little bit bigger, etc. Sorry for the crappy pic- maybe I'll get a better one later.

MiB was just on broadcast TV a week or so ago and I was just thinking that I'd like to see someone make a replica Galaxy. SWEET. Did you do the whole thing from scratch? Where did you get the marble?

Thanks guys. The entire thing is made from sterling silver- same as the original I believe. I cast the top frame section as one part and then laser welded everything together with the marble inside. I got the marble from a shop right around the corner from where I work- cost me a whole ten cents. They had some really cool translucent blue marbles but they were too big so I got the closest thing I could find that looked good.

I sized it based on my three cats, the largest of which is just over fifteen pounds. I still think it came out a bit small overall but the next largest marble that was decent looking was way too big. I'm beginnning to think they used two different sized holders in the movie- one for when the actors are holding it and one for when it's on the cat's collar. When the actors hold it it has an extra section of chain that isn't there when it's on Orion's collar.

There is a really friendly cat that lives down the street that looks just like Orion in the movie so I might try to get a collar and do a photo session.

It's too bad I didn't have this done when I did MIB for Halloween a few years ago.

Excellent work. :thumbsup Love that prop. IÂ’ve thought seriously of building that myself, but never got around to it. Not to hijack the thread, I had machined this about 6 months just after the movie came out....a lot of fun it was, when I had it.

Very nice work. I recall the jeweler who made the actual props for the movie would make you a replica...but it was something on the order of $10k if I remember correctly.

I don't remember what the original jeweler was charging but I know it definitely wasn't cheap- especially for something made from sterling silver. I know I would charge a lot to make another one that's for sure- but nowhere near that kind of money.
