I hate ST Discovery

If Mis-Discovery had to carry a true series weight on it's shoulders like TOS through ENT had to on network TV and produce far more episodes it wouldn't have lasted a single season.

This man also disavows Star Trek: Discovery and pledges his plaid pants and his most serious and profound look of displeasure to the holy quest to defeat all that it represents.

Ladies and gentlemen, beware his explosive rage.

the base reason this show bites is that they pulled a Kathleen Kennedy, its " The Star Trek is female", the main character is, the captain is, its all about the girl power, and its dumb, its force feeding us Rey. The original ST treated people equally, but didnt ignore differences, women didnt have to be men, Uhura was capable and beautiful and a woman, men were physically stronger than women, thats reality. Crushers a great doctor and she's a woman. The problem is writing a series with a "message" and one thats poorly done. Ridley Scott and Cameron both have strong women in their films, well written with depth, their sex is who they are yet not a message of any sort, you accept them and their story.

I think you miss the main reason behind propping up women, is that they've been traditionally and historically relegated to subservient roles to men. I mean, hell, women are still treated as second class citizens in North America, and it's the 21st century. Throw in being non-white, and you're ******.

As far as movies and TV shows go, particularly with action, the lead characters have been white, straight, men. You mention a few examples, and yes, you're right. A few is what they get.

We're so incredibly used to it, that the social trend towards equality, has become such a shock, that when we see a bias towards women in roles of power, that the insecure men watching the show tend to freak out at the loss of being represented.

We're NOT being replaced. Some people are just trying to show that people other than white straight males actually exist in the world.

I HATE Burnham's character. But that's on the show's creators, writers, and directors. She doesn't need to be the flawless superhero to be the lead role. And there's nothing wrong with the actress. She's just doing her job.

I HATE Tilly for the same reasons.

Neither of those reasons though would be valid for removing them as lead characters, as opposed to men.

I have never heard so many big whiney babies in all of my life, complain about things more, that is really just a reflection of their MASSIVE insecurities and fears of having their default power and representation in life being placed on a level playing field with other people.

There are exceptions of course. The anomalous very few non-white men who jump on that bandwagon of fearing for that misperception.

To sum up. Pull on your big boy pants, stop your bitching about non-men being in leader roles, and just complain about the ****** writing. There IS a difference.

Star Trek Discovery sucks because: They have no clear vision. They have no clear understanding of the Star Trek Universe. They don't respect continuity. Their ship designs suck. Everything is blue and black and glowy tron. The writing is garbage. The dialogue is garbage. Everything is based on BSG, Star Wars, and every other sci-fi EXCEPT Star Trek.

Star Trek Discovery is good because It IS diverse. It DOES represent current values and social movements to be inclusive. It is trying to be more Star Trek. It's a shortlist, but it deserves to be said.

So I have to accept and in this case pay for entertainment I dont find entertaining so women can extract some kind of revenge? minorities are statistically over represented in the boardroom, sports, politics and entertainment. Women get paid more for nudity then men
Most of the people who watch science fiction are men, I can't enjoy characters I relate to?
ever been to a convention? its men of all colors getting along and we like women there, we aren't the problem so no need to send us some kind of "message"
Hollywood has pushed past equality to vengeance

So season 3, Burnhams little suit has so much tech, but its from before Kirks time? some things just make no sense 900 years in future would be more advanced and thats your solution jump forward in time? who does she meet, the black Han Solo and his Space Slug Chewbacca? I am so sick of holographically projected effects, must be cheaper than building gadgets and real sets, speaking of which they filmed this in some park outside, probably all done on the cheap, no sets no props just cgi, cloaked ship conveniently means no effects, lets add more bad acting by Green, where they get these writers, Walking Dead jumped into the future a few years, lets do it too, is it the new Fonzie jumped the shark? I hate these new Sci Fi holograms its just a way to cheap out and not build sets or props. Let me add the Mcquarrie Enterprise is a work of art, the USS Discovery is a dookie bird

No, you don't have to pay for it, nor do you have to watch it. I mean, that's 100% on you. You're not the Manchurian Candidate, strapped in front of a projector being force fed anything.

There is LOTS of entertainment that still reflects white and white male imagery. And yes, in positive forms. We are NOT being replaced.

Again, you miss the point of the representation of non-whites, or non-males, in the entertainment world. It is NOT to hurt you or me. It's to finally give everyone else some time to shine.

Things will balance out when people stop being so damned negative towards people that don't look like them. And that even happens in "minority" groups. But the issue is, particularly in North America, that white males still dominate EVERYTHING. And it's NOT about how many of us there are. It's about non-males, and non-whites NOT being given a chance JUST BECAUSE of that very thing.

Hollywood is pushing that, because it's not only the right thing to do, but they do it because it's their target audience. You think they do this and NOT want to make money?

Again, this will balance out. Things will level out as long as people stop dumping on people out of FEAR for losing their identity.

I'm still represented in entertainment. I'm so white, I'm practically translucent. Canadian with an all European background. I'm not ashamed of it because I can accept that there's more to the world than just me, and I'm not afraid to see others be represented in things like Star Trek.

Discovery, despite it's atrociously ***** writing, directing, lack of direction, horribly modelling, and lousy story arc concepts, DOES give people otherwise traditionally SHUNNED, a voice. It lets THEM be seen. It lets THEM feel like they can see themselves in a future.

Stamets is there. He's white. Other than being gay, you and I are represented there. OF course I am assuming you're not gay. I could be wrong. What's the issue with that? I mean, unless you solely define your existence by what you ****. That's pretty small and petty if that's the case.

Everything else you mention about Discovery's tech and time travel suit crap. I 100% agree with. But that goes along with my prior comments about what makes Discovery suck dirty sass.

I do agree that the “Iron Michael” suit was far too advanced to have predated Kirk’s era.

Given this as the analog to base the “Iron Michael” suit on....

...then the “Iron Michael” suit should have looked more like this:

Or, it may have been an even better idea to have never conceived of the “Iron Michael” storyline at all; but that goes beyond design work and goes more into the territory of terrible writing and a profound misunderstanding of the universe these characters are supposed to occupy. I have already stated my opinion on that in the Discovery thread.

I personally put my opinion into action and quit watching after season 2. This show isn’t just “bad Star Trek” it’s “bad science fiction television” in general.

The show basically just sucks.

we'll just have to a agree to disagree, I also wonder what went on at the Sarek household, was there incest? let me add I hate emo Antifa Spock, and I hate all the mystery of his appearance just like in the first ST movie, that was stupid, your pal comes to visit and you act like hes Dracula or something, while on ST, and gayness, 7 of 9 is not gay, she might be bi but not gay, another modern rewrite that makes no sense, all her past relationships with men, and as a Borg survivor she would have male and female memories so she could be bi, but I believe part of finding her humanity would be finding relationships and sex for pleasure as a human female and then add in still being Borg, the binary nature of computers would appeal to her as would the nature of female / male coupling, in computer world u are either 0 or 1

No. we don't have to agree to disagree. You're just plain wrong.

What the **** is wrong with you, making comments about possible incest?

I was fairly patient, but you're clearly looking to be a prick here, and clearly in life in general.

Good luck with that.

The world need less covid, klingorcs and Kurtzman.

Could have used to money spent on STD to remaster all of DS9.
DS9 is probably my favorite Trek series. Broad character arcs, and solid writing for the most part. Strong and powerful female leads, who weren't trying to be a "woke" version of their character. Multiple human ethnicity represented equally, without resorting to tropes and stereotypes. They even managed to address the overarching Bajoran religious conflict with respect.

whatever, thanks for the condescending attitude

and in the ultimate crossover, Dax is married to Adam Nimoy in real life!

patrickivan you are fighting the good fight here, and you are absolutely correct in everything you’ve said.

The problem is, you’re arguing with someone that is, essentially, exactly what you already know they are.

Here is a quote from him regarding ANOTHER franchise, which simply further illustrates your (extremely accurate) characterization of this individual.

Patty Jenkins should be sent to an island of women, where she can make crappy movie in a vacuum

I mean...how mad do you have to be that women exist to post something like this?
