I have to agree with the others. If you want to be a stormtrooper, be a stormtrooper. Don't compromise your dreams because of the possibility of ridicule or finger pointing. Every trooper you see got out of bed that morning and decided to wear a plastic suit in public (meant in a good way, folks). That alone opens you up to a certain amount of jeering. At the same time, these guys are also getting a lot of very positive pointing and attention. This is the flip side of the coin. Some people will call your costume stupid, and other times you'll brighten up someone else's day.
When I dressed as Han Solo at Celebration III a little boy ran up to me and asked if he could hold my blaster. I just unslung it and handed it over. The smile on that kid's face made the whole costume worth it. He didn't say "you don't look like Han Solo" or "your hair's the wrong colour". He was just really happy to be Han Solo for a couple minutes. That alone makes up for any amount of people who could tell me I don't look the part.
"That's all I have to say about that..."
