how's unitd cutlery lotr stuff?

Hey... Check this out.

LE Anduril

Cheapest one I've seen yet. Too bad I can't afforsd to buy even this cheaper auction.

Can anyone tell me what's the difference between the regular edition and the LE, particularly differences between the swords themselves rather than the certificates? Is the LE like the museum editions (I.E.-- Glamdring and Sting)? If so, why does it have a stainless blade like the regular version? Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, and I could be wrong, the only difference is the Limited Edition Mark engraved into the blade. Anyone who knows more can please fill us in on any differences. I know for a fact it is not like Museum Collection sword. The LE is stainless steel, just like the UE.

I am guessing they are pretty much the same sword except they sold the LE first and decided to make the UE due to high demand after the initial run.

I would just get a UE and scabbard for $300 something instead.

NOTE: Just looked it up. The only differences are the Runes on the pommel are gold in the LE. Which is incorrect to the movie prop, actually. Some LE's were made with gold Runes on the blade as a mistake and are very rare. In general, it seems the UE is more accurate to the screen used sword than the LE.

The differences between the LE and the Unlimited versions of Anduril are minimal. The plaque is different: LE has a better looking one in my opinion. Also, on the LE the runes down the blade have a gold accent (and also the runes in/on the hilt, if memory serves), while the Unlimited does not. Those are the major differences, other than the LE marking on the back of the blade.

Blades By Brown were somehow able to get a hold of a number of extremely rare LE Anduril's with no LE number. $595.00

This must be a group of super rare Les that have gold blade runes. All the pics I've seen in ebay auctions have the silver runes. I will admit that the gold pommel runes, the better plaque, and the certificates that explain the design and such of the sword were the major reasons why I wanted the LE. I was also under the impression from a guy that had one that it was a little longer than the UE (he said his was just under 55" rather than the 53" regular version). That was last year, so I dont really know.

Thanks for your help

Seth

i finally picked up a UE Anduril sword recently...it's really nice

how is the fit and finish of the scabbard?

i bought a Narsil and Strider's Ranger knife a while back on ebay and both were slightly damaged...not sure if this is a one time thing or if some of the UC stuff suffered from some quality control issues...???

just trying to decide if the scabbard is worth the extra money

thanks

It's a pretty freakin' sweet scabbard, I must say. UC had some QC issues on their earlier scabbards like the Ranger Sword. But the Anduril scabbard I got was awesome.

Re: how's unitd cutlery lotr stuff?

My Limited Edition UC Sting sword is sharp!

I'm thinking about trying to dull it...is this a bad idea?

Will I ruin the sword? Anybody know how to do it?

thanks

UC is back in business again, no need to worry :lol

In fact, they're still planning on releasing some new LotR swords we haven't seen from them before. They recently released the Witch-king's dagger and Sam's sword.

Oh yeah! I completely forgot about that one. Looks beautiful, especially with the little engraving on the head of the axe. Which makes me think... Oops, nevermind- forgot I already spent all my money on HCG's Leggie bow that's coming out this month :lol

Here's hoping UC makes Haldir's sword sometime in the future! (Or Aiglos. That's gotta be my favorite spear of all time. Then again, I guess there wouldn't be too much of a market for a 10-foot-long prop that you see on screen for less than 3 seconds... Oh well)

The only reason that is sharp, is because somebody sharpened it. It shouldn't be sharp.

To dull the blade, wrap some fine grit sandpaper around some scrap wood like a 2x4. And rub the blade back and forth on the sandpaper. It won't take long to dull the blade. I did this with my Elven Knife of Strider. It worked great.

Re: how's unitd cutlery lotr stuff?

My Hadhafang came with a sharp blade, a VERY sharp one at that directly from UC, explain that???

UC did make certain weapon props from LotR that did not have a false edge, so they would be sharp. Legolas' fighting knives, Hadhafang are among the sharp ones... There might be more- I can't remember at this time.

Re: how's unitd cutlery lotr stuff?

Yeah, I bought my Sting years ago direct from a retailer, not from a prop collector. It's really sharp.

SirJediKnightTim, Thanks for the tip!...:thumbsup

Re: how's unitd cutlery lotr stuff?

Any thoughts on the Elven Sword and shield?

I've been eying them for sometime but haven't gotten up the gumption to commit to them.

And by "gumption" I mean cash. :lol

Re: how's unitd cutlery lotr stuff?

Overall I like the UC LOTR swords and own a few. I will say that they do require maintenance or the metal finishes will oxidize. They are much better than the cheap garbage Noble Collection was turning out. I bought a few of theirs and returned them immediately.

I have the UC limited edition Anduril and it has a different wall plaque and it says Limited Edition with #### of 5000 on the blade.

The Elven War Sword is absolutely gorgeous when you hang it on a wall. Really pretty setup with the horizontal orientation and curvy shape. One of the prettiest display setups of all the UC swords, imo.

However, it doesn't stand up to ultra-close scrutiny if you decide to take it off the wall and inspect it. You can see the lines where the two halves of the hilt were cast pretty well, as well as those little circles that were left behind from the casting. And the red paint is sometimes a little careless, getting on the brass leaf motif at times.

However, if it's hanging on a wall, nobody will ever see that. So I highly recommend that sword if you're planning on sticking on a wall right away.

EDIT: And with a bit of work, you can make it even prettier!

The shield I don't know about, as I still don't have one.

does anyone have any methods of techniques to keep swords in top nick. will i only make it worse if i do anything to the blade or could i actually prolong the quality of the sword by doing nothing???

Re: how's unitd cutlery lotr stuff?

I give my swords a good once over with an oily cloth (like you'd use for a gun) occasionally. This keeps them in top shape. If you do nothing you can develop problems with the blade and any metal parts, especially if you handle them frequently.
