Hi All...

I would like to undertake in making a 1:1 scale Norris Spider Head from The Thing (1982) Here is a pic...

I was thinking of starting with a styrofoam head and wire (firm wire) for the legs, and just start building up from there...

Is this a good way to start, or does anyone here have suggestions that could save me a big headache down the line :)

This is my first build of this kind so Im pretty noob.

Thanks

Go here to choose a head you can use for a base: www.ghostride.com
They have quite a variety to dig through. Don't know what your budget is, but the heads run about $100 each. I would suggest using 1/2 inch PVC for the legs and then cover them in thin sheet foam rubber.
Over this, you can lay strips of paper towel dipped in liquid latex. This will give it a flexible skin and proper shape to the leg segments.

That is Henry Alvarez...but that doesn't look like the spiderhead used in the movie?

TylerH, unless you just want to have a go making this yourself, there is a 1:1 model kit of the spiderhead creature available from a few places.

I would love to do the model kit, but I cant find it for sale anywhere... I have been looking for a few days.. Do you know a reseller?

Thanks for all the help everyone!

You probably know the places I'm going to name then, Monsters In Motion, and I think a place called "Dark Carnival Models"...who were the ones that originally created it.
But this has been several years ago so these sources may have dried up.
