How well will Alclad Chrome work on SEMI-gloss?

After wet-sanding my project for an hour, I sprayed with Tamiya Black, only to realize it was SEMI-gloss black...

Will Alclad chrome work as well?

Can I simulate the gloss black by using a clear gloss over the black paint, and get the true Alclad result?

Or does the Alclad have to interact directly with the black?

I think the reason you want gloss paint is because it has a nice smooth surface.
So I would think you could gloss coat the semi and be Ok.
I've always used Gloss black so I haven't tried it.
If I had some alcad I'd try it for you but I'm out at the moment.
hope this helps.

I don't think it's so much the surface, more so the material. I think it has to be lacquer, and not acrylic or enamel. The gloss black they sell is a lacquer and is the recommended base for their airbrushable chrome/metal lacquers.

Try some tests on spare plastic.

If you are going to shoot some clear gloss over the semi black why not just shoot it with the gloss black it makes no sense :confused

The black paint I like to use is a semi-gloss lacquer. I spray it with Future floor polish, then hit it with the Alclad.

If you just use the semi gloss, you end up with a matte metallic finish, but it doesn't have that quality that "sells" the Alclad as real metal.

Surprisingly, alclad chrome has a pretty high shine right from the start. I find giving it a quick buff after it has cured, brings out a nice level of depth.
