i was wondering.... i know imdb.com has a big listing of the special effects/visual fx/etc companies involved with the shooting of the movies.

how do you know what company did what though?

mainly i am curious about how they did the kryptonite in superman returns. i figured it was worth an email to the company to ask them a few questions about materials or even design work to do my own custom design, but there are quite a few of these listed.

i know other companies have done really cool things we all wish we knew more about, like the prototype spiderman web shooters, etc.

how does one go about finding the company needed?

im kinda lost and basically dont want to spam a bunch of people i respect ;)

I usually go through the full credits to see who the prop guys were, then click them to see if their IMDb profile has an official site. If not, then I Google their name & hope for the best.

Your best bet will be the cinefex about Superman... They got a lot of information, often with advertisements from the FX shops...
