How many DVDs in your collection?

Before I begin, how about we set the Wayback Machine to 2008. So, for my YouTube account, I decided to take pictures of my DVD collection, individual titles, boxsets and some new DVDs I picked up. Out of the five videos I made, it covered the total amount of 296 DVDs. And this was back at the end of 2008, and I know I've bought several more between then and now, 2011, which would probably bring the count up to roughly around 340 (this is a guess). I've even considered on doing a complete revision of my DVD collection videos to include the newer ones when I began to wonder about the people here at the RPF.

There's a few people here who have a wide palette in their tastes for motion pictures and TV shows. I know I do, as my collection reflects the A-grade and B-grade, the foreign and domestic, the classics and modern and the variety of genres.

So, out of the curiosity that itched at the back of my brain, I began to wonder: How many DVDs do you have in your collection? This includes estimations and guesses (should you have counted once and your collection has long since increased or decreased since you last counted).

I've got about 120 or so, many are box sets though so there are more DVD's than that.

I'm in the process of digitizing my collection so that number is going to shrink drastically! I'll only be keeping the DVD's I can't bear to part with.

I have 2600 titles in my database. How many actual discs that is, is a mystery.

Plus 34 Blu-rays and 374 Laserdiscs.

Oh....and 100 some odd reels of 16mm film.

....and some leftover VHS (Starlost).

That's understandable.

217 individual dvds.

27 boxsets.

15 Blu-rays and counting. :)

Actually I just got a Blu-ray player for X-mas last year. So I'm in the crazy position of just how much of my collection do I buy all over again.

I mean I still have dvds that I bought not too long ago that still have the shrink wrap on them! :wacko

Really burns me as some of them I "should" buy on Blu-ray (such as "2001")... but I just bought 2001 on dvd last year and was pretty proud of finding it on sale for $9.99. Now if I buy it on Blu-ray that savings goes out the window. :angry

I figure I don't need to get comedies or so-so dramas on Blu-ray; I can live with the upconversion. However sci-fi, and actions flicks are a must... and that's the majority of my collection. :unsure

Damn! I went through all this when I switched from vhs to dvd. :lol :cry

Don't know if you're interested, but Wal-mart has '2001' on Blu-ray right now for $10. FYI.

OT: My DVDAF account states that I have 445 titles (which is 611 discs apparently).

I have 500+ DVDs/Blu-rays. I only counted the cases, so there are definitely more individual films. Plus I let a friend borrow some, so I'm missing those too.

Ughhhh... running out of shelf space

Over 6000 titles in my movie library. 2600 were on Laserdisc but many have since been upgraded to DVD and Blu-Ray. Don't really know how many now...all I know is I ran out of shelf space long ago.

MooMooEgg....you should stick to my policy.....none ever leave my house. All are as new as the day I opened the box. Illuminates loosing movies or getting back scratched up discs....plus some movies I can't replace.

Yeah, I know. I only lend to trusted friends who know how OCD I am (Only 2 have made the cut). and usually when I do (if possible), I put the disks in jewel cases and keep the boxes home.

I believe I've got near a thousand on an 8 foot tall 4 foot wide shelf I got from a liquidating Hollywood Video for 30 bucks!

I have somewhere around 1200. Until a few months ago I had all the boxes lined up on several shelving units. I bought some very large cd binders, holding around 350 each, and those now take up less than one shelf. I then put the empty boxes into the attic.....because I cannot stand to part with them.
The hardest part was deciding how to place the discs in order in the binders.

Close to 300+ individual movies.

15 and counting complete series.

I work at a record/comic store warehouse that sells new and used dvds. so I have first dibs on new releases and hard to find movies. Beat part is I have access to industrial disc cleaning machines so all my dvds are scratche free.

TV Series - 494 boxes, so approx 1500 discs.
Films - 222.

I buy blu-ray now where the price difference isn't too great or the film/series was so good it warrants it (i.e. 2001, LOTR etc); I have about 14 films and 3 tv series on blu-ray.

look at all you losers that actually paid for the dvd...tisk tisk....get with the times and illegally download like the rest of us. ;)

joking aside, i own less than 100.....I find it difficult watching dvds, so i avoid buying them to save money....No point of waisting money when i have no intent of watching it....i prefer watching movies that are televised on cable tv......not sure why, just a preference.

I do make exceptions from time to time....The last dvds I bought were Beauty and the Beast Bluray, the machinest and Excalibur. I may add the collector (1965) to my collection after watching it on tv the other day
