How many DVDs in your collection?

...i prefer watching movies that are televised on cable tv......not sure why, just a preference.

I happen to see that "Rocketeer" was on TV a couple days ago while I was channel surfing......so I assumed you liked watching it "pan & scanned" and edited for commercials? The picture was of poor quality too for a program being televised on digital TV. Well to each his own I guess.

For you "Videophiles" looking to save money there's many methods that help you save. First release week is usually cheaper if you shop around and some studios offer coupons on a blu-ray upgrade. For example Disney almost always offers a $10 off coupon for their classic film releases. Bambi is being released today and with the coupon you can get it for $12.99 which comes in a Blu-ray - DVD combo pack.

Special Offers - Disney Movie Rewards

I usually buy at Best Buy because of their price matching policy and Blu-rays show up on sales quite often. I just bought Robo Cop on Blu-ray for $10 and when I upgrade the movie I have CD sleeves which I put the DVD into and it goes into the Blu-ray box. Last you can always find movies in the "used bin" at some movie stores like DVD Planet, swap meets, garage sales or Craigs list online. Just make sure you check the discs inside...most people are hard on discs and don't care how they handle them.

Not sure how much of a downgrade that is from the DVD :lol Just kidding!

I'd prefer to watch the Rocketeer on DVD for widescreen if nothing else (and so I can see it upconverted at least) but it gets back to the way Disney has neglected the movie which is a huge pet peeve of us finheads. It'll be a miracle if they ever release a bluray of it.

Man, I thought I had a lot of DVDs and I've probably never broken 250 in the heyday of my collecting... I got rid of about 75 DVDs a year ago when I traded them and about 175 CDs in for an ipod at ipodmeister.com.

I learned the hard way that buying movies is usually just not worth it for me personally. Most of the stuff I tend to buy I don't rewatch very often so now I limit my DVDs to stuff not available on bluray or to stuff for the kids. And I require the stuff I buy on bluray to be movies I know beyond a doubt I'll watch multiple times which usually for me means superhero movies or my absolute top favorites. I just can't afford to go nuts with buying stuff again and besides, they take up way too much room...

I will say, I do still prefer disc versions of my favorite movies than digital downloads. Downloads are cool but when it comes time to watch something on the tv, I prefer using my bluray... I guess it's just the old-timer in me that likes having a physical copy or something.

Buying movies isn't for everyone. I just happen to prefer ownership and have always wanted a library I can access anytime I want. I guess it started back when Beta-Max tapes were alive and I had a friend who had a pirated copy of Star Wars. It was the worst copy of a movie I'd ever seen but it was still cool to watch it at home when at a time movies were not even offered for sale to home users.
Movies I don't want to own but want to at least see once then I have Netflix for that....only catch is you can't rent most new releases on their first week and have to wait up to 30 days.
For you guys that can't say no to lending out your DVDs then do what I do.....many new releases come with digital copies and your buddies can bring their laptops and get a copy to watch that they can stream to their TVs and you don't have to worry about getting a scratched up, fingerprinted, miss handled disc when you get it back.....if you even get it back. :unsure
Then there's always movie nights when a few of your buddies come over and watch a movie together.....I have a smaller size theater popcorn machine just for that purpose.

500 not including my Series compelations and box sets!

No blu-ray as of yet

Not counting the kids' movies (around 150)... I have 93 Blu-Ray and 335 DVD's -- and counting.

Ive got about 200 DVDs, only about 30 blu-rays.

I had a TON of VHS, but I boxed them up and left them outside a Goodwill one Sunday morning.
I kept a few VHS like my boxed sets of Star Wars and a few others that had sentimental value.

I have over a thousand.....so many i`ve had to remove them from their original packaging and put them into plastic sleeves with a small printed cover.
I just don`t have the space!

Boxed sets and favourite stay as they are and tv series such as The X files are too nicely packaged to downsize though.

by the way i`m new here so be nice!

I have about 300 DVD's and a few Blu-Rays...I will have to show the wife this thread, she thinks I have too many lol.

A few over 400 (guessing my the amount of space they are taking up, I need to build a new shelf lol) all in alphabetical order on the shelves. People think this is a bit odd but it has 2 benefits: 1 I can find a film I want to watch at a glance and 2 I know which ones are missing, its easier to notice what isnt there than remember every single one.

Also I may be a little CDO (its like OCD but the letters are in alphabetical order AS THEY SHOULD BE!!!)

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 400, I think (that's counting box sets as one unit); no Blu-Ray until our current dvd player bites the dust. We still have a bunch of VHS tapes, but I can't remember the last time we used our VCR for anything other than a dust-collecting clock. :D

Here's a pic of my shelf, room's a little messy though.

I think I have somewhere around 700-800 dvd titles and 14 on blu-ray.
I have a 4'x5' closet in the basement that I had turned into the movie arcvhives. I have about 45% left until it's filled, but I'd like to stick to buying blu-ray from here on out.
