How long would Silicone last??

I am looking into purchasing a silicone head bust and was wondering about how long does silicone last before it starts to rot, if it does at all??? Does it last longer than latex???

Will last much,much longer than latex, but will still be suseptable to damage from sunlight.

Alot has to do with type of silicone. All silicones are sensitive to uv light and will break down eventually. Some will leach oil over time and some will become brittle. My suggestion is to find out the type of silicone and the manufacturer and check the specs. I have silicone molds that are 17 years old and still going strong, the secret is to keep them in an air tight bag in total darkness and at room temperature.

I have the silicone master of the life cast bust of Harrison Ford that dates back to Disney's The Great Movie Ride . other than the surface being dirty from molding use, general dust and handling, it looks like it was cured yeaterday.

AND silicone is easy to paint.

Check out Siliconeinc.com for their silicone paint system. The versatiltiy of effects is incredible because the pigment base can be ANY artist oil color one wishes to use.
