I was really torn when my hero was being built. I am really glad that I ultimately went with brown bess. I love it.

Matt's picture is a great comparison but, unfortunately, brown bess is one of those colors that doesn't photograph very well. It is much nicer looking in person IMO.

I have the crappiest of resin castings that has never been assembled.

I got to hold the real hero from Aliens though, does that count? The brown bess was barely visible through the black that was scratching off of it from its repaint for Alien 3. It was HEAVY too. This was 15 years ago. I have a pic of me holding it if anyone wants to see.

I heard a rumour once that the original brown bess was greener in color, but it became more brown in Humbrol's "Super Enamel" series. Can anyone confirm this?

Mine's Brown Bess - There are TWO Brown Bess colours, the more recent one isn't accurate at all.

Real-steel Spas cage, airsoft Remington, Matsumetal stock and barrel, Matsu plastic shroud and Marui Thompson...
~8.5kg!

I do try and ease peoples minds on the issue. Dead on accurate Brown Bess is nigh inmpossible to achieve...the second you touch it, it changes colors...as do most 'dead flat' paints.
The screen used guns were definately 'handled' so don't think for a second that the guns you see on screen appeared even close to how fresh un-sullied brown bess might appear.

The notion of OD shrouds in my opinion is partly due to the extensive 'blue lighting' in the movie which turns brown colors green, and SD studios use of OD on their replicas. Who, right or wrong are most peoples first stop in researching pulse rifles.

If truly accurate is available that's what i go for every time, i don't care what other people prefer or see or if it looks different on film.
i like to have a replica of the actual item not peoples perception of it.
