How do I flatten pipe?

I have a project where I need to use a 1/2" copper pipe for reinforcement. The problem is, there is a section where I need to flatten the end about halfway (to an oval/football shaped profile) Obviously, I could hammer the crap out of it, but I'd like it to be as even as possible.

Any suggestions?

perhaps a solid/heavy vice or hydraulic press? I don't know... just guessing

Bench mounted vice is the only way to do it.

Ditto.. I've done that before with projects.. for soft copper, go slow.use a rubber (or similar) cushion around the pipe to reduce surface marking..
