How Accurate is Stormtrooper FX Armor?

A friend is thinking of getting some FX armor and was asking me if I knew, since he's not a member here and since I have no clue, I thought I'd ask here.

I know the helmets are bobble head-like compared to accurate helmets, but how about the rest of the armor?

It's a fan sculpt - oversized and disproportionate. I know it's not much, but all I can give on this kit - also... it has been recast a bizilion times...

Can only advice on getting accurate armor, such as AP.

It's the most affordable and to 99% of the public looks spot on.

To the likes of us, not terribly accurate. Still, wearing a screen accurate helmet with it goes a long way.

Well, if you are talking about ACCURACY... then... the armor is not what you are looking for.

As NoHumorMan has told... is everything BUT accurate.

So a short answer to your question:

How Accurate is Stormtrooper FX Armor?

Absolutely nothing accurate at all... (really really nice fan made for the past (in my honest opinion), but not accurate)

AP is a great way to go.

Nothing is accurate, but it's a nice set of armor that fits many more body sizes and the price is right...

99% of the public won't know the differences anyway, so unless you are looking for screen accurate armor there is nothing wrong with it... Also because it's worn by most of the 501st anyway, accurate armor will stand out and be the odd ball ugly armor in a group to most people, ironic...

Thanks for all the info guys. Is there an average price that would be good for FX armor?

Myself, I'd love accurate armor, but it's usually WAY out of my (or his) price range.

I have seen FX all the way down to $350, but I can't vouch for its quality or durability. Though, normally it is about $500.

And really... AP isn't really ALL THAT MUCH more expensive than the $500 mark and you are ensured QUALITY, TROOP-ability and DURABILITY!

I will always recommend the AP, as it is really not that more expensive, so that argument is really gone... AND you get a more accurate armor.

Though... to each his own.

It is terrific armor. Very well made and sturdy. And the best priced armor there is.

As far as accurate, well, since no two Stormtroopers were exactly the same, who says whats accurate.

Question was still how accurate it was. And it is not.

With that logic, then cardboard cut out and painted white and glued onto a black spandex suit is just as "accurate", then.

Even though the suits didn't look identical in the film, due to assembly, they were still formed over the same molds... and surely something cast from one of the original suits will be more accurate to the originals than the highly inaccurate FX armor, no matter how you put it.

As far as the question of "durability", its armor. Having trooped many events and Halloween's, Ive been mobbed, hugged, kicked, punched, hit with a mini baseball bat and taken strait up hits by flying objects in a crowd. People are complete idiots at times but the suit always comes away with minor damage.
From the hits my armor has taken, I doubt anything eles would hold up.
Thank god I only wear dirty armor to public events.
If you change the helmet out, its a huge difference. I personaly like the larger helmet being talle rthan average. Plus, I tried a TE helmet and couldnt get it over my head.

For accuracy, its a stormtrooper and the powers that be like it more than what they have to offer. The trooper on the far left is me, the trooper to the far right is from "them".

Accuracy... it's plastic and it's white :D

It's a nice cheap set of armor, and if you get a nice ANH helmet to go with it it makes it ALOT better. The first thing people usually look at is the helmet anyways.

Everyone in that pic look fab especially the wookie and r2:love !

I could never wear an AP armor due to my size and hight.
I am 6.2 and 225 lbs with 38 inch waistline. The AFX is made to be worn by a large group of people.

If your for accuracy then AP is the way to go.

But for modification for comfort and intend to wear over time i whould recomend you an AFX. The AFX is a good wearable costume in my opinion.

If your the correct size for AP then you should go that rout.

An AFX whould cost you 550 USD with armor & helmet kit + holster + all the straps, decals, lenses rims.. all you need to complete the armor.

These ar AFX armor:

Unless prices for AP kits have plummetted since last year, then they are a fair amount more expensive than $500....but you should notify AP for current pricing. Mind you, the old adage "You get what you pay for" applies here...

That said, and after owning both, the AP is far superior in both accuracy/detail and thickness of the pulls...very durable. The only real advantage of the FX is it's generally cheap and fits larger body types better.

The fx armor is great for different body types.

The AP is more specialized. Great armor though definaltely.

I honestly would go with the FX armor. Like it was said 99% of the 501st use it. In my opinion though not accurate to the real thing it looks nicer.

If you have never seen the real armor it looks like CRAP! I would not own armor if all the armor looked like the original.

AP armor is ok to those who want more accurate armor. There is a guy in the local garrison who has a set and does he stand out.

AP is not nice looking like the FX armor. But to all his or her own.

Both of my sets of armor are FX.
The Stormtrooper (FX version 2) http://djsyczylo.net/costumes/Stormtrooper2/Stormtrooper2.htm
and my Sandtrooper (FX version 1) formally my Stormtrooper until I went dirty.
