How about a REAL firing LeMat?

i found these folks in a "Guns of the old west" magazine.... they make a real firing replica of a Lemat and supposidly very good quality. Of course its a black powder gun, so requires no FFL to purchase AND costs a bit more than the Denix one, but your basically paying for quality AND to be able to have a real firing one.....

just thought id pass it along for those firefly fans out there...

It could probably be done. I don't think you'd hit much with that huge fake site greeblie on the top of the barrel though. And of course, there's the cost of the gun itself, youch.

Those things are awesome in themselves. Not terribly practical, but awesome.

And it's been in a movie as-is, so you've got a good excuse to just have one around for fun without the mods. ;) (the movie was Quick or Dead or whatever it was, I think.)

well what id like to do is do a conversion on one so it would fire cartridge shells instead of cap and ball...

Which I do believe is what they had in the TV show.

The Lemat was also used in 12 monkeys. It's the gun handed to Bruce Willis in the end.

It's probably been in some civil war flicks too.

Even if you convert one to cartridge, stick with black powder. That design can't handle modern powders. What with Cowboy Action Shooting, you can probably buy black powder cartridge these days. If you load your own be sure to check out the safety issues, black powder is dangerous in a lot of modern reloading units.

Yea, I have one of those Lemat replicas. The machining and finish on it are awesome. I haven't fired it yet but the friend I traded it from has and says it's a really fun shoot. I wouldn't mind getting a cylinder conversion for cartridge one of these days.

Zombie thread - but a buddy of mine has one of the reproduction Le Mats that he had professionally converted by a gunsmith to fire custom .45 black powder cartridges. It was also converted at the same time to look exactly like Boo using one of Sidewinder's conversion kits.

It is absolutely amazing to shoot - very little recoil due to the heft of the pistol - and surprisingly accurate, even with the huge "sight" on the top of the barrel.

Just thought I would chime in and let y'all know that it has been successfully attempted and the results were fantastic - but it DID cost a pretty penny.

thanks a lot! been trying to find something like this for a long time! now just need to find a way to get one to the UK :s

Correction; I provided a LeMat and the screen-used 'Boo' to an armorer in Texas, he made all the alterations, and knocked the 'faux Boo' down to .38 caliber because he had to. Looks like Boo was converted to .38 for the show anyway.

Call Jay Strite at Kirst Konverter and he can help you out if you've got a cavalry LeMat to send him.
