Hoth on a budget...

Oh, it shouldn't be too hard to find. Here in Colorado, we have a big chain of hobby stores called "Hobby Lobby", and I picked up a bottle there. It was "Woodland Scenics Snow - Soft Flake"...

But I've also seen it at other hobby stores. Pretty much any place that deals in model building should have some in stock. Just look up "hobby" in the Yellow Pages and make a few phone calls around town. Somebody's bound to have it.

And Michael...if you're referring to the really small die-cast snowspeeders...

That would actually be way too small, and I think would be even more out of scale with the walker than the Action Fleet speeder. Again, I was just uising the MR version as my visual guide. I'm assuming that for $1200, their walker and speeder are in perfect scale...

...and if that's the case...the Action Fleet speeder is probably about as close as you're going to get.

I remain impressed. I like the latest comparison shot. I really do NOT see a thousand dollare difference in quality between the walkers...

Very nice display. I always love to see take something and build it into something special.

BTW- I think he means the vintage Kenner die-cast snowspeeder, which probably is a bit smaller and may indeed be the scale you need (could be wrong on that.)

How big(or small) is the old MPC snowspeeder?

Tom

I was referring to the first vintage die cast snowspeeder :

They are fairly cheap and come up on ebay from time to time. It needs a new paintjob, and the detailing is not brilliant, but it could work, being an in-between scale between the new diecast and the microcollection snowspeeder, aboot 10-12 cm overall length, IIRC.

I found it online. Do you need to mix it with an adhesive to create the mound effect you have? I've never used this stuuf before.

OK, never mind, I spoke with the guy at my local Hobbytown and he get set me up with the snow and the adhesive and a cheap spray bottle, so I'm in business :)

i read somewhere this week that the company that made that AT AT are making a snowspeeder in the miniatures line. So that will be in scale I'm guessing.

should be cheap too

Just found this thread and have to say you setup looks fantastic for the price, well done...

Just one question, did you weather the AT-AT or is just 'Out of the box'?

OK, here's my effort. I need a cool background picture but I am happy with the results :)

Awesome, Bryan. You added rocks.

Rocks. I've been sitting here staring at my setup, wondering what it's stilll missing...rocks. Those look really great. They seem to add just that tiny extra bit of terrain detail that I was looking for....I need to try that.

Alright, so spill it...how'd you suspend the speeder?

LOL. Well, the pictures are a bit blurry so that help, but I used the empty plastic casing of an old ball point pen. It's glued to the bottom of the speeder and stuck in the ground (which has a styrofoam base). I angled the speeder towrds the viewer so it's well hidden. I used the rocks cause I had never used Scenic Woodlands snow and realized you could pile it up and create terrain like you did. So instaed I went outside, grabbed some rocks and glued them to the styrofoam base and then dumped snow on 'em.
Thanks for the inspiration, bro.

....nice job. Yeah, I love the MR AT AT but I just can't justify the $.....for a SS version, I'd rather get an ATATRon model.....
<div align="right">

For $200-300 more then the ATATRon model kit you can get the MR V1 AT-AT for $850-950 off eBay or here, and thats if you can even find a ATATRon model at it's origonal $650 shipped selling price. There are only about 21-25 ATATRon models in existance.

I have seen ATATRon model kits selling for $900 here in the junk yard and on eBay in the past, I would rather get the MR.

I got an MR Limited Edition AT-AT at FAO Schwarz on sale for $725. Can't beat that..

I have an MR and a WOTC walker... There is easily a $1000 difference in the walkers... When you see it up close. From a distance if its generally the correct shape and color - its good enough.

I'm not dissing the WOTC walker diarama - its really good. but the MR model is far superior if you're trying to match what was on the screen. but it is hard to argue a decent walker for $50...and the WOTC walker is certainly a decent walker ;)

Ah the beauty of photography (versus seeing it in person.) ;)

I really love that diorama .

One suggestion though, maybe you want to get one of the old diecast snowspeeders, they are smaller than the Galoob micromachines one.

Otherwise, nothing left to say, just to follow your great example .

Just bumping this thread to say, great work on the display.

I've just received my WOTC AT-AT and am very pleased with it - it's a great display model right out of the box, IMO, for the $$'s it can't be topped. :D
