Hollow crystal tip request.

Hey RPF
I am new to prop making but have always been a fan, following a lot of different work and have finally decided that it is now something I would like to get into.

I am currently planning my first project, a replica fantasy mace that has some person meaning for myself. While it is mostly straight forward the mace head is made up of 'crystal'.

My plan would be to make two clear resin shells one inside the other and fill the 20mm(ish) gap between them with a cloudy lightly colored resin leaving the inside hollow and the crystal transparent and light.

The crystal head would be about 400mm x 150mm x 150mm.

I have looked around on the forums here and searched the net and been unable to find anything that talks about how to make a shell that can be used to make this. I would assume it would be done in 4 halves then assembled.

Any tips you can give to making these halves would be greatly appreciated.

I do quite a bit of crystal clear casting for several of my clients and would be happy to help you out, but I admit that I dont' quite understand what it is you're trying to achieve.

Primarily I don't understand why you would want two shells with filler between them. Could you possibly provide some sketches of what you are looking to achieve?

Well, i assume he's looking for an effect with the filler between the shells, and leaving it hollow, either for weight, or maybe he's planning to light it?

he wants it to be lightweight and hollow with the effect of cloudyish crystal both lit and unlit. why not just make a single cloudy colored resin shell 20mm thick?

Why not make just a hollow shell and coat the inside of that with stain glass paint?

It would certainly save you a ton of work.

I don't have any decent blueprint yet as I have barely had time to get the idea down any were other than my head at the moment.

The mace head would be basically just a large chunk of 'crystal' held onto the handle with 'metal' banding.

The two shells would have been to keep it light weight but your right a single 20mm thick shell would be a lot more simple, I'm not sure why I did not think of it.

How do you go about making a thick shell like that then, I have only seen guides for if it was to be solid.
If needed it could be broken into 4 pieces with a central join hidden beneath the banding that holds it to the handle.
