Help - Sew On Bloodstripes

I ordered some of those sew-on bloodstripes, and after an interminable wait, they arrived yesterday. They just seem too short to me.

I'm 5' 10" and they seem to fall several inches short. Measuring the stripes, they're 32" long. Am I missing something? Surely these should run from the top of the pant to the hem?

I just got mien as well. They fall about 3-4 inches short. I wish they did make it all the way to the bottom, I don't know if I'll ever wear my Han pants out of costume, but I'd like to be able to.

That's what I was afraid of. It's going to look really weird having the stripe just...stop towards the bottom of the leg. Surely it makes sense that you'd want a stripe long enough to cover the whole garment...

It's my understanding that Kerezman is the ONLY way to get decent stripes, and there are obvious issues with ordering from him. If somebody else made embroidered stripes that went all the way down the leg they'd probably make a fortune.

Looking at the back of the stripes i ordered, each one seems to be two pieces joined together. I don't see why it couldn't be three instead. I'm getting no joy out of the seller either, who doesn't seem to like returning emails.

There is another ebay seller who offers iron-on 34 inch stripes...that's slightly better and offers a little more coverage. Has anyone tried these?

I've never seen them in person, but have seen good pictures. They don't look anywhere NEAR as good.

Why do you guys need them to go all the way down? I don't understand this. The boots cover the bottom 1/3 of your leg. What does it matter if the stripe goes lower? You're really gonna wear pants with no pockets and weird stripes on the sides out and about?

I've spent a lot of time in costume as Han and you don't want any more material crammed into the boots. Trust me.

Speaking for myself, I'm a musician, and can definitely wear a pair of bloodstriped trousers onstage, or even out and about. I found a really great pair of brown fitted cavalry pants and I'm don't want to ruin them by attaching a stripe that sort of hovers four inches above the hem!

What do you want me to say?

Kerezman sells his stripes the way they are because you don't need stripes all the way down the pants. I don't even think the movie pants had stripes all the way down. The fact of the matter is that the boots cover most of the bottom half of your leg.

These pants are for a costume. No one else cares about what's inside your boots. Personally I get a lot of my pants cut into capri style so I'm not shoving as much pant into my boots.

There's even a shot of Cushing without boots on in ANH and his jodphurs are 3/4.

If you want stripes all the way down then find a way to get them done yourself. That either means making your won using bis tape or getting some embroidered.

I don't think the hostility is necessary. I could probably see myself wearing the pants out of costume as well, I think they're cool, so the fact that Kerezman's stripes are a ridiculous ~5" too short is kind of annoying.

Dave, the only recommendation I could give you is to ask Kerezman to sell you one more stripe and cut it in half to make them long enough. It'll probably take forever to get to you, but you can make the pants in the meantime and add it when it gets there.

Have you checked fabric stores for a ribbon stock in the right shade and width? As it seems the ones you have are joined strips, you could do the same easily enough with a sewing machine. An entire roll of the ribbon would probably still only cost you what you would spend on the made item, and you could make the length whatever you wanted it to be.

In the end, the seller sent me a couple of extra, shorter strips, for a fee.
H&M were selling a 'close enough' military-style pair of trousers for the ESB yellow bloodstripes which matched well.

Hot Topic currently has the 'indie fit' line of jeans - the dark blue is a good match for the New Hope style. I just wish that the guy who sells the stripes would get his act together and ship in a reasonable timeframe (30 business days, when you think about it, is a long time).

I've got a custom embroidery place near me, if I ever decide to do some ANH pants I'll be going there to get the stripes, that'll save me from the light blue background on the red stripes between the two pieces of dark blue denim as well.
