So, I recently was going through YouTube, and I found some old videos from Cartoon Network where they built a real working version of Robin's collapsible bo. I've wanted to make one of these forever, and until I saw those videos, I wasn't sure how well it could hold up. Basically, I need help figuring out how to create these. I'd prefer it to be spring activated if possible. It would also need a locking mechanism to keep it open or closed. My idea for this was to use something similar to what crutches use to change size. Take some metal buttons and drill some holes in the different pieces of metal pipe. 4 holes in the main (center) pipe and one hole in each of the secondary pipes. Each side would have 3 pipes, including the center one, so two would actually eject from each side. The buttons and holes would stop the pipes from flying off completely.
There are a few problems with this though. How would I make sure the buttons and the holes stay aligned, and how could i make it easier to close?
