HELP: Prop Gun Engraving

Hey all, looking for some advice on mimicking engraving marks.
One thing I've wanted to include in my prop weapons is custom manufacturer's markings such as patent dates, company logos, etc. I know these are usually stamped or engraved into whatever piece of the firearm they're features on, but I'm not sure how to replicate this on a prop gun (namely one made out of plastic or cheap pot metal as opposed to steel).
I bought a cheap engraver (made my Dremel if I recall correctly) off Amazon a while back, but it was a piece of garbage and thoroughly useless for what I wanted to achieve.
Is there any way to get this kind of detail without spending major bank?

I've included this 1911 slide as an example:

Any help/advice is appreciated.

Your best bet is electro etching fairly easy to do and if you get/use a vinyl stencil for your text you can get a pretty pro finish
Not my video just one of many on Youtube...
