A challenge for the experts here -
Before I started working at ILM in '86, My friend Wesley ( Who was hired right before ESB ) would give me the "trash" from ILM, which was mostly half-used sprues and bad resin castings - This item was in that trash - it is a painting mask, made of brass and has lots of layers of paint on it - I received it in '84, it had to be used on a miniature made @ ILM during that time. The first thing that comes to mind is the Mon Calamari battleships, they had a similar pattern -
