Help me identify this hose (Zam Wesell, Kaycee Kollenz)

My sisters had an old portable hair dryer that had similar hoses on them.

Similar to this:

Vacuum hoses can look pretty close when stretched out. The problem is that they don't hold their shape like that.

You can make them hold their shape by adding something inside the tube then stretch the tube and secure the ends to the piece inside.
I doubt that the tube is stretched like that in its natural state.

Here is a better pic of the Dyson Hose, it is pic 1 but stretched.

I agree with Franz-bolo you could stretch it and then run something along the inside to stop it recoiling.

What do you think?:confused

Thanks for all the ideas so far. I'm still not convinced that it's expandable hose with something inside to hold its shape, but that kind of hose is what looks the closest so far.

I've never seen that type of hose that wasn't expandable.

I believe that's what the wire inside does. Do you have an example of one that doesn't expand and collapse?

I'd agree with Franz that it is expandable hose. That's the nature of that design.

The Dyson hose that m477j posted looks pretty close to me.

Okay so today I examined a Dyson DC18 Vacuum and its hose looked spot-on or very close to it when stretched out and it seemed about the right diameter. The problem is the vacuum itself is $400 and the replacement hose is $50. Not sure that I want to spend $50 on a hose that I'm not 100% sure is correct or that I'll be able to create a method to keep it stretched out properly. It is the closest thing I have found so far however. It could even be the exact one but I'd need the actual hose to do some comparison shots and paint it black, etc...

Thanks for the leads...at this point I think google has been exhausted so I'm thinking this is going to be a case of the hose coming from a vacuum or some application we have not even considered that maybe someone will have firsthand knowledge of and instantly recognize it.

Could be, but there is a huge difference in diameter. We are talking about an ID of about 1" with a max OD of 1.25" for the Zam hoses.

Have you thought along the lines of the costume people having taken a found hose and casting it in something to 'freeze' it into holding its expanded shape?

Not sure what they would have used but when looking at the first pic in the thread it almost looks like the material itself is cast solid, rigid.

Hey guys,

Take a look for "duct hose" on McMaster-Carr. They carry a large selection of the rubber/plastic hose with the wire/spring running through it. They also carry a smaller selection of vacuum hose.

I'd sooner think this was a duct hose because of the spiral spring support(Many of your modern vaccums just use corrugated/ribbed hose). I'd also venture this type of hose is more subject to being compressed to some extent rather than stretched.

Unfortunately most of the stuff that looks decent on McMaster-Carr is too large in diameter.

Also, the dyson dc18 vacuum hose I found looks great! It's got the right ribbing...but the problem is that the diameter is too large.

However, a member here has contacted me via PM and said he has the contact info for the person who sculpted Zam's armor. So he is going to contact that person and ask him about the hose. I'm still waiting to hear back but hopefully he has some info!

Click picture for link/info. It's a 1" ID ducting hose. Wire covered by 2 layers of polyurethane. Since it's wire, stretch it out a bit so it won't shrink back to it's original form, should look dang close.

Gotta love Grainger!

P.S. It's also available in black I believe.
